C6 vs SS

I don't even mean the Impala SS, just the SS! Why did Chevy have to use these names... they are confusing as hell

Just to add, my cousin also has a G8, which is the Holden predecessor of the SS. He also rebadged his 2015 SS to be all Holden. It is a nice car, but if you can swing the Vette, especially being that you are younger, I would go for it. I don't think you will have any regrets except if you have the need for more than one passenger.

Drive a few and buy the one you like the most.
HP, weight, though nice for bragging rights, really does not matter unless you track. I have yet to see a speed limit sign that says " go as fast as you want ". Essentially, both have more HP than can be used unless you like to collect reckless driving tickets.
Personally, I would only own a corvette if it was a second car. My DD needs to be multi purpose.

A couple of things to think about. Especially if you are on a budget and depending on how many miles a year you plan to drive and this is going to be your only car.
It is nice being able to carry more than one passenger when needed.
Insurance cost difference might be something to look into.
Everything on the Corvette will be more expensive, tires, air filters, tires, etc.
Don't have to worry as much about curbs, speed bumps, etc. with the SS. Found myself in a parking garage the other day and I couldn't even go up the ramps to the upper floors.
Corvette is much higher profile, could be plus or minus.
Corvette is a Corvette, SS isn't, although it's a nice enough car.

I love my Vette but it's a luxury and would have to be one of the first things to go if I ran into financial issues.

Most of us knew this, and it's a common assumption when people hear "SS".

Back in the day you could get SS in a Camaro, Impala, Chevelle, and Chevy II.
I don't keep up, so I assumed he meant Camaro.

I would save up a bit more and wait for the '16 SS price to drop a bit after its initial hype
Stock for stock a '16 SS should be a good run with even an LS3 c6 looking at the 1/4 mile trap speeds, and the LT1 is a heck of an engine (not that the LS3 is a slouch)

I love my C6 it is the most fun sports car I have owned and gets a lot more attention than I expected it to but I don't think I would enjoy DD it. Its small and mine is really low so driveways and parking I have to really pay attention to where I'm going. Getting in and out is a mildly annoying its a long drop to the ground. Nothing at all about it makes it undo able just not for me everyday. I'm 26 BTW.
You can also look at 09+ CTS-V's in the just under 40k price range.

Buy the Vette and keep the 4 seater. We kept our old "family" Accord when my wife decided she had to have a MINI Cooper S. Now my DD Vette can stay home when the weather is REALLY bad, and we have 4 seats for the 10 times/year we need them. You know you want to be driving a Vette whenever possible, and you know you'll want a 4 seater a few times per year. Set your budget to insure both cars and pay for the Vette absent a trade-in credit. Then find the best Vette for that money.
It's a no-brainer.
Good luck and have fun!

I have a 2015 SS as my DD and here are some thoughts on the SS vs C6
1. I transport more than myself and someone else on a regular basis.
2. No one knows it exists mine has been called a Malibu SS more times then I can count and because of that cops don't really pay attention to you.
3. Insurance is cheap for it (paying $140 a month for full 100/300/100)
4. It's fun to surprise people when you get on it especially Corvettes. Do I lose? Yes,but the look on their face is priceless when they hear a "Malibu" sound like a Vette
5. The interior is night and day better than a C6
But in the end drive both and see what you like.

Guys:
This is what the OP is talking about. (Not a Camaro)
As mentioned earlier it is the re-branding of the Pontiac G-8 which was manufactured by Holden in Australia. Great car. I had a G-8 GT before getting my Corvettes and it was a blast to drive. It wasn't a Corvette, but still a very respectable automobile.

I have a 13 GS coupe. I am 56 years old and always wanted a Corvette. I am very happy, but it is not my daily driver. Before the Vette I had a V series Cadillac - nice car also. But before that I had a 2005 Pontiac GTO . . .
That car was one of my favorites of all the cars I've owned. It just felt so well built. I often regret selling that car. Holden makes a great car for GM. Ironically, that car was criticized constantly for not looking like a classic GTO.
My point is I believe the SS is a great car, and able to deliver great satisfaction to its owner. Different then a Corvette, but still great.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy an SS . . . I might even pick one up next year. Good luck.

Corvette hands down. I would choose a Mustang over the Camaro if you need the extra seats.
The Camaro is harder to see out of, and it's not nearly as quick. If you were talking the new 2016 then maybe. Go out and drive both if you haven't.
