Default Any more word on C8 engine?

Last I read, the C8 will be mid-engine design. Anyone heard any more news on this?

If that's true, then I'll be skipping the C7 altogether and just wait for C8. If not, then I'm not sure how much more improvements they can do over the C7 and I'd probably just get a used Z51.

What's the word?

If there is a C8, my money would be that it's a non-v8 hybrid motor, and a starting price of at least 80k.

The 2016 Camaro will be available with a 2.0L 4 cylinder. That may be an indicator as to which direction the industry is headed...

Let me guess. Supercharged, producing 550hp and 125 ft. lbs. of torque.

As I listen to the endless pissing & moaning concerning poor C7 'quality' I can't help wonder if GM will deep-six Corvette, altogether.
No one can put anything past those at the helm at GM, the winds of change have shifted so drastically it may very well happen.

Auto enthusiasts over 45 y/o have watched what's happening to the collector car markets via major auction houses understand what's going on. It isn't pretty.

Elites will always have their P - F or other exotic for their pleasure, and the cost will be stiff to all except those w/ the price of admission.

But the average Joe? meh. Get a Pious.

2022? I seriously thought the next gen was in 2017 or 2018. There's no way I'm waiting 10 more years (I plan to buy minimum 2 years old to get a discount from new) before buying another Vette.

If it's really that far out, I guess C7 is my next Vette purchase. Geez

LMAO! ! ! The corvette isn't going anywhere anytime soon. There will always be a Corvette as long as GM is around. If they do offer a mid engine the price will be above $150,000, but I believe they will also offer front engine vettes at the same time, for the "average Joe". That's my opinion.

Because all this is meaningless anyway, here is my prediction based on...well, you know:
C8's, introduced as 2018 1/2 model year will be a mid-engine 3.0L, 6cyl, lightweight diesel making 800 HP (Nissan has a 1.5L 3-cylinder making 400 hp now).

This engine 6 CI, 9 HP will be in front powering the AC and electrics:

I'm guessing my prediction is as good as any at this date. (OK, the V8 up front may be a little much.)

My new s60 has a 2 4 turbocharged 4 cylinder producing 275 hp, more than my 89 C4 but it still is a piece of chit, all plastic and software. I would take my 5.7 liter 8 cylinder back any time. For us the old timers some of the observation here are bang on as we all have seen where this whole industry is going. Days of disposable cars and lot of plastic and for the ones that can afford carbon fiber with software. I honestly believe that the C6 is and will be the last good car they have built ( ignore the interior, nothing that cannot be fixed for few thousand plus for 64 K you did not expect Ferrari interior did you?). Keep it, lavish the small portion of the price difference on it, you will give exotics costing 4 times more a run for their money. I am personally done, this is my third and last Corvette.

I think if the C8 is mid engine, it'll price itself right out of the average Corvette buyers budget.

Thanks for the chuckle C6 Snowboarder. Maybe they will be round again!

I know I won't be able to afford a C8 with mid-engine, heck I can't afford the C7 at it's $65+K entry point now. Thus I just wait a few years and go for one of the "gently used" that will be available. Horrible tail lights and all!

Close. 2L Turbo, 275hp 295tq. I'm not a Camaro fan, but the thought of a 4 cylinder is quite off-putting, even though other engines are available...

I do not know....but I hope you are wrong.....if you ARE right, then the C7 Z06 will be the ultimate and last of big time Corvette performance!

You definitely picked the right symbol to end that one with!

This is spot on according to what I've heard and read. People like Rick Hendricks and owners of the largest Corvette collections in Florida and the Midwest seem to all feel it will be a two tier program with two very different price points. Obviously, any state-of-the-art performance machine with mid-engine will have to sell well into triple figures in todays dollars.

That's very subjective. You might find it interesting that when I take both my '427' C6 and my C7 Z51 to major shows, while there are nice compliments on both, by far the most positive styling comments are over the new C7…yes, including the rear end and it's lights! Especially from younger fans, who of course are the ones Corvette really needs in order to continue as a success.

As far as one more subjective statement…I really like them both. I think each fits the body style that they're on. You may have seen the aftermarket C6 rear end for C7s. It looks quite ridiculous, and I understand it's been a sales flop, even though it is of high quality. Just a couple of things to consider.

No need to label environmentalists as crazies and as far as this administration goes, doesn't VP Biden has a vette? I see you are hiding under a chair. Maybe because the moderators prefer that posts avoid political comments and just stick to cars. One might think you are of the right-wing elite and such rules don't apply to you.
