How many 360s can you do?!

Melting Slicks
New tires on front and 3mm left on rears traveling at high rate of speed on wet roads?
Tires with deeper tread on front and practically bald on rear are always a one way ticket to Spinsville.
You do realize that all states mandate tire replacement (and for states that have it will fail annual inspection) due to wear at 2mm right?
You should immediately go purchase lottery tickets as you are obviously one lucky individual.

Could be rain or could be this? (based on C5 history)
first http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1565196
then http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1728406
Lets hope it was due to rain (although that's a scary thought)
I would file a online complaint with the NHTSA either way.

72 complaints regarding Electronic Stability Control for 2005 Corvettes
29 for 2006 models
and only 3 for your year 2009
Did not check the other years. My puter is super slow.
Your call

Michelin rf A/S Pluses going on tomorrow to match the fronts Agreed, I was very lucky there was nothing solid to hit. I mean, seriously, 6 or 7 360s at 70 mph and there's not a mark on the car?! Man...

You got a wake up call and are wise to heed the message. Good luck out there.

That's very odd. I feel like a part of the story is missing unless your tires are near bald.
I drove my last C6 home on MT ET Streets from the track & got caught in the rain. I figured I was going to end up in an accident but she never even tried to break traction or wag the *** end out the whole hour drive.

Once upon a time I was driving a 2004 Z06 in the rain and doing 80mph, and it did fine until I hit a puddle of water standing at the top of an overpass, the car got light and all of the sudden it started spinning. I hydroplaned and did multiple 360s like you and somehow I did not hit the cement median to the left and I ended up in the grass on the right and stopped before it dropped into a deep ditch! While spinning I just knew that it wasn't going to turn out good. But I too survived no harm at all other than scrubbing the tires a little. I drove the rest of the way home in the right lane at 50mph. I never drove fast in the rain in that car again!

I'm sure in the rain many of us, in any ride with big tires, has felt that little shimmy/slide feel in the rain.
That's our wake up call to slow down or we may be in for a scary ride. Lets be safe out there.

You didn't say if you had the cruise control on at the time so I can only guess that it may have played a part if it was on.....I learned that lesson the hard way in a 1968 Buick back about 1970.... From what I have been told by other owners, the Corvette is prone to hydroplaning on wet roads at excessive speed. Rear end will come around just like you explained. Glad to see that you enjoyed the thrill ride and that nothing was hurt, other than probably your underware...

58 plus or minus a degree or two.
I was telling my story to a law enforcement officer that came by work today. He said the exact same thing happened to his sister in law in a Corvette and it killed her. The thing that continues to amaze me the most is there was absolutely no warning. We've all been driving in the rain where a tire loses traction for a second and hooks back up. I felt NOTHING. Driving along straight and started spinning. The majority of places this could have occurred would have killed me. I am so, so lucky.

I'm thinking the stability control trying to recover from the hydroplaning may have caused the spinning. I've lost traction in various cars in rain and snow and never spun like that.

Two new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus on the back to match the fronts now. I wanted to do that before winter anyway. Mine's a DD. I have a whole new respect for rain at age 60

You don't get much snow down there. Unfortunately what you do get, when the temperature is low, is many times more ice than snow.

True, but I drive with some snow on the road every year. Plus we do commonly have pretty low temps in January and February. This is the tire that makes me happy

Although you are a bit SE of me, we had some pretty nasty storms roll through overnight. I am looking at a pond where I usually see grass growing.
Glad you and the car survived, I think I would have been another to go home for clean underwear!
