2005-2007

If you are getting an automatic, the 2005 is only a four-speed. There are some other differences, but they are minor in my opinion. My 2005 M6 convertible has been awesome and trouble-free. I would suggest that you just look for the price, mileage, options, and colors you really want, and not worry so much about the model year.

The 2005 differential used with the manual 6 speed is weak compared to 2006 and newer, but you won't have a problem with it unless you are drag racing with drag radials or slicks and dumping the clutch at say higher than 2500 rpm. I upgraded mine and have no regrets with the 2005. I wouldn't mind a Z06 or a ZR1, but it's hard to justify the extra cash outlay when I already have 600 hp from the boosted LS2.

Nothing wrong with buying a 2005. Has the person telling you not to buy one ever owned one? Or even driven one? All cars have some problems specific to that year and model and any 2005 would have had all of those things resolved 9 or 10 years ago.
