What cars can beat a C6?
I know it's weird to be posting this on a Corvette forum, but my friend has a 2008 C6 base model that he's about to start modding with bolt-ons. I'm in the market for a car and would like to give him some friendly competition. What cars are in the same price range (25-35k) that can give C6's a run for their money? We would primarily be drag racing.

Lots can, depending if you're in a lot of hairpin turns or just a straight. I've owned a Lotus Elise and might out-drift a C6. When I had my Stage2 Saturn Sky Redline we were even until 120mph with a stock C6 here in Colorado...Altitude plays a huge part whether you're blown or not. 24 PSI made a difference.
Basic roads up to 190 mph? Veyron, Italia, Viper (not-ACR, which is slower) Gen IV, Saleen, Gallardo Barbarosa.. there's quite a few. Almost nothing German or Japanese except hyper-exotic like the Porsche GT3, etc.

Why not just find another C6 and "outbuild" your buddy !! You can find a nice, slightly older one, that fit s you budget -and- have a little $$ left for performance mods !!
Seems like a reasonable plan to me !!
Good luck with your plan.

Most of the cars mentioned are mid to low 13s quarter mile cars like the EVO...The mustang is a high 12s car but the coyote engine has cylinder number 8 problems and with too much HP has a higher probability of engine failure. They are also less aerodynamic. He is starting at mid to low 12s depending on how good a driver he is. He starts off with a better platform and with equal resources $ your going to find it hard to to ever beat a LS3 engine. The LS3 engine is bullet proof and you can throw tons of HP at it with no problems. The corvette is also lighter and more aerodynamic...you cant compete with anything else. He can spend 8k and have around 700 HP....Bottom line: go buy another Corvette or your toast. For 30 to 35k you can buy a corvette that is a 2008 + they all have the LS3 after that year. On top of that with any of the other cars you will look like crap compared to his Vette...their is no better car that has bargain + performance + amazing looks for that price.
Maybe a Viper..? But most are overpriced in comparison...

Are you looking for a track queen or something you can still drive and then get into it on the weekends? I got my c6 after being a Mustang guy since 1995 because I wanted a change and wanted something I could get 25+mpg on the highway, track day it, drag race it and all sorts of stuff. I will also admidt the sound of a cammed ls3 put me over the hump....bipity bipity bipity bipity.....

This is such a vague question. Any modified car can do it if you have enough will and cash to do it.
In general, I've come to realize for a STREET CAR anything over 500+ RWHP is pointless unless you have all wheel drive. It's a practice of throttle modulation from a dig and any reasonable starting speed. If you're only running and gunning on the drag strip then all bets are off go for it with a RWD setup.
Anyways, I'll plug my "bolt-on" C6 into the mix. This is the kind of pull you're looking at with a gentle supercharger in the mix on some methanol...
Mods in sig...it's a rocket on topend and this is a mild build compared to others who go this route.

For $35K a properly built '53 Buick can beat a C6 on the drag strip. Speed isn't all that expensive if that is all you are interested in.
$500 car that will be any stock Corvette:
