Oil change remaining life.

Oil change remaining life.
I have a 13 GS that I bought new in Jul/13. I had the oil changed when ON Star said I needed it which was about a year after I bought it. Just got a notice from dealer and ON STAR that I even though I had 54% left before next change that the computer had sent a msg that it had converted when 1 yr passed. I only have about 6K on the car. Should I get the oil changed because of length of time or by mileage?

The "one year" in the owner's manual, is there for people who can't remember to check the OLM or don't have one to check and don't pay attention to mileage either.
The OLM is smarter than the owner's manual, because it keeps track of your car and not a calendar.
Run the OLM down to single digits and you'll be more than safe.

Condensation , build up in oil of cars not driven enough to boil it off. That is the reason to change oil before OLM says to. Otherwise water in oil causing rust on engine internals. But your call!

You do realize this is a closed system, unlike engines of the 50's, so internal condensation is nearly impossible. Additionally, condensation doesn't need heated to the boiling point to evaporate, since any temperature above the dew point is sufficient. Any real water that conceivably could have found it's way inside the engine by any means, would drop to the bottom of the pan, which is aluminum and doesn't "rust".

THANKS for explaining that, always wondered why it need to be done every year if mileage was not that much
