Bread bag concerns aside, using the right hand method, wouldn't you point your thumb down which means you turn clockwise while looking at bolt from below??? now you got me confused and I got to go to the shop to see which way to turn the plug on my car

Now that's just plain wrong. You tuck the twirled bag and tuck it under the loaf of bread. That way the bread stays right side of on the counter.

If you're home, just look up at your ceiling fan light fixture. Imagine you're changing the light bulb. Reach up and which way would you turn the light bulb to remove?
Ok, and now for the light bulb jokes ....

I am thinking ... anyone that can't figure out which direction to properly loosen or tighten a simple engine oil drain bolt probably should not be changing there own engine oil.

I found the Fumoto valves (which I have used on other cars) really didn't work on my 2013 LS7 due to the way the pan was cast.....I could have used extensions but didn't want to.
I used these instead (https://www.nospillsystems.com/index.cfm), a little pricier than Fumoto but work great and don't hang down/out from the oil pan:

Ah, the light has come on! Right hand method curls fingers clockwise for bolt removal but that is in fact the same as turning the bolt counter clockwise with the wrench.

Think about a clock!
Think about a clock, looking at the HEAD of the bolt, turn the the bolt and wrench Counter-clockwise to loosen. To tighten, turn the wrench and bolt clockwise as the hands of a clock move. Almost seventy years of experience, NO problems. Of course, for LEFT hand bolts or threads, just do the opposite.

How do you know if its a LH or RH thread?

Good point. I learned the hard way years ago when changing differential gears that the ring bolts were LH and not the common RH. I had a 600' lb+ impact gun and snapped the heads off two bolts when trying to remove them before discovering they were LH. DOH!?

I have found that through experience that if a bolt gets tighter as you try to loosen it, you are probably going the wrong way, and before you continue, change direction. Works most of the time for me. But then I am simple minded.

Bolts with left hand threads sometimes have LH or L on the head. Older cars I've worked on did not have a letter on the wheel studs, and I've also seen axle nuts with LH threads that were not marked. Interestingly, the LH axle nuts were on the right side of the vehicle.
