USB charge outlet added for passenger
Well, it seems the wife is always wanting to charge her phone , or we want to plug in the Garmin. A few days ago , I had the pleasure of driving to a museum with my son... yep he needed to plug in/charge his phone. I already use the one USB outlet in the console for a music thumb drive, with all my favorite music Well, no big deal, we do keep a USB cigarette type charger in the console, but i thought it was time to add something easier for passengers!!!
See it????
closer inspection...
as you can imagine, carefully placed hole where behind is a really nice gap, and this was inserted..
which plugged into a duel USB outlet i had already installed in the kick panel, and already used one outlet for my dash cam..
(yes, you do have to remove the hockey-stick as we call that plastic piece to see gap and drill and insert)

Amazon. Yes, the back has two clips, which let you press into it all into the hole, but if you ever want to take it back out, you would have to press inwards on those two 'springy' clips.
you can find them with many names, here are two...
USB to USB Female Extension Socket Panel Flush Mount
Panel Mount with USB Vehicle Charging Jack

Nice work, but why not just buy one of the numerous options that are USB/cigarette lighter plugs? They plug into the powerport in the center console and allow you to hook up 2 USB devices and still use the port. Cost....A couple bucks. Install time....a few seconds.

Like a portable one in the center console isn't hidden and out of the way, aka sight unseen. Then there's the fact that some are about .75" wide and barely 1.5" long with 2 USB ports which really makes them bulky. Uh huh.
I asked a question out of curiosity of the OP. Didn't need a d*ck-head response.

As others have said, looks great.
I bought a cig lighter adapter with two usb slots. $10, and 15 seconds of work.
Did I miss something? "

Well, no big deal, we do keep a USB cigarette type charger in the console, but i thought it was time to add something easier for passengers!!! I had been using the USB charger when necessary since 2011 when we got the car. It just seemed something that would be nice for passengers and the driver as well.
For anyone wondering why i would spend an hour doing it. Cost was $9.99 , already had port for it , being used for a dash cam.
Let me put it this way.... When i explained to the wife what i did and showed her, well, she in her wisdom asked point blank...
"why did you do that?"
(told ya she was wise beyond words!!)
I just asked right back... "you dont like it?"
reply was my answer..... "well, yes, now i can just plug in and out without bothering you to open and fiddle around in the console when your driving"
(i won that one, whew)
bottom line....
necessary? NO
do i like it? YES
wife like it? YES
you like it? yes=good no=good maybe=good whatever=good... lol
(for those that said wasnt necessary, your right. USB charger plug in easy 10 seconds, your right too) however, i like it , so I WIN... lol
