2005 C-6 Best Oil?

Is it Dexos certified or does Amsoil only say it meets Dexos requirements? I don't know since I don't use it; certified versus "meets requirements" makes a big difference for warranty coverage.

Other than Mobil1 you can ask that question about all the other oils that have dexos approved on their bottle. But I'm convinced that Amsoil does meet the requirements for it to be approved since they are the first company to introduce synthetic oils to the industry. Call Amsoil directly and you'll get all the answers you seek.

just spoke to the service dept. of Gray Chevrolet and was told there shouldn't be a problem, and even if there were, they would have a hard time trying to prove the problem was from a non approved oil. so there you have it, i also rest my case.

but, i will continue to use Amsoil whether it is on that list or not only because it is a better grade of oil than Mobil1. GM just doesn't recognize that FACT. what the hell, they put Goodyear tires on their cars, what does that tell you?

Amsoil is certainly a quality motor oil. And, as you said, in event of an engine failure a tech would have a hard time trying to prove the problem was from a non approved oil.

It is important that you use 5w30 oil and not just 30w oil or the engine oil will not flow properly.
Amsoil says that the break in oil should not be used past 1,000 miles and is to be used only for engines that have just been rebuilt and not for new car that you bought from a dealer new. If you run it past a 1,000 miles it can ruin the catalytic converters.

Thank goodness, your original post about floored me when I saw it, but there are newbies that follow these threads that may think you are serious and go out and put the break in oil in their new vette.

The fact they have royal purple on that list tells a lot lol.
If you're going to put in anything other than M1, definitely amsoil would be a good choice. Or brad penn or even quartz.
I suggest doing TONS of reading on BITOG.com and see for yourself.
While you can do all that reading about oil, i have yet to see an oil related engine failure in these engines. Unless you change your oil once every 50k miles or like once every 3 years or so, you won't have any problem using ANY full synthetic oil.
Just go to your parts store, get whatever is on sale, make sure it's 5w30 full syn and go enjoy the car.

Wow. Yes it does have the nut. I had not considered the clearance issues. Good call. I may return that. What's the best oil filter to use?
