Default Insurance question

I just put a deposit down on a 2011 white corvette and i was wondering what kind of insurance companies do you guys have and whats a good rate? I currently have state farm but i heard from a buddy of mine that they are doing some shady deals to give lower rates and if you get in an accident you may not be covered. All responses are appreciated and sorry i dont have pictures of the vette yet i will soon when i go pick it up

I've had State Farm for over 20 years and not only do I get the best rate, I've heard of no "shady deals".

Although I hate AARP I joined to get Hartford AARP on both the house and the cars. I saved a boat load.

I've had State Farm for about 40 years now and never any problems with them. Of course, I pay them well. When my C5 was totaled about 3 years ago I actually got more for the car than I expected. It was the other person's fault, but SF paid me up front on my collision, the got their money back from Progressive.

You reminded me of something though ... when I got the insurance on my C6 it was pretty much my daily driver; now it's not, so I need to call my agent about lower mileage rates.

A good rate is going to depend on where you live.

I recently switched to Hanover from Safeco because of cheaper rates.

For my 2011 Toyota pickup and '07 C6 I'm paying about $1300/year, clean record.

To Budgreen: Hmm, I'm an AARP member, and also hate it. But you're saving a lot, even on homeowner's? Maybe I should check them out.

I now have State Farm, and I have not heard of any funny business going on. Prior to SF, I had Farmers Ins, and when I got the vette, their insurance went way up. State Farm insurance for my vette is about $500.00 per year.

Exactly. There are just too many variables in play to determine a good or bad rate. I live right on the border of a good or bad rate from the same insurance company. If I had lived two miles south of where I live now the rate would be $400 more than I pay now with all things being equal.

It really depends on where you live. The Corvette generally is a fairly low priced car to insure. If you are current or former military, you should really check into USAA and see what rates they have. Also take a look at them for all kinds of other financial services.

I pay $147 a month with a completely clean driving record because I live in the shiatty state known as Michigan. The state you're in is probably the biggest single factor even before driving record.

That's not entirely apples to apples though because I'm young, and it's not a base car.

The payoff for you is to shop around many companies. The differences in coverage vs price will astound you. I've been with Nationwide for nearly twenty years and I still shop around every year for the best price. I spent fifteen minutes with Geico once and the guy told me that if they could beat everyone's price there would only be one insurance company. Good luck!

FWIW: I live in the boonies (no crime), am pushing 65, and have a clean driving record.

Mine is a lot more than that, but it's based on more mileage per year. I'll call my agent tomorrow to get that changed. Should have done so a year ago. I may owe you guys one.

They have a really good reputation, and I guess they're a good deal if they're your insurer, but from my experience if you're the guy that one of their insured hits, it's not so great.

My son was rear-ended by one of their insured a few years ago. Of course, the guy was on his phone. He had a 1995 Accura Integra with a retail value of about $4400. USAA only would agree to giving us the wholesale value, about half that. I got my company, State Farm, involved and they gave us the full retail, then got their money back from USAA. You can't replace a car for the wholesale value. That's why I don't do business with them, even though I qualify as retired Navy. I don't want them screwing me, or the other guy if it's my fault.
