Possibly going to get a 2010 Vette.. Need Advise
Hello everyone. ..
I am thinking about buying a 2010 Corvette. its in great condition and has about 20,000 miles on it. my concern is the 5 year hundred thousand mile power train warranty will be expired in a few months.if I'm going to take on a five year loan for a car that's already five years old should I get an extended warranty. and are those extended warranties worth it. And how much should I expect to pay? Thanks..

You will get a tons of different opinions about buying an extended warranty. I say if it makes you feel better and gives you peace of mind, buy one. If you do decide check online dealers for a better price. I'm sure someone here will chime in on where to check for a better price.

I too bought a 5 year old car. Like yours, it had 20,xxx miles. I went ahead and got an extended warranty on it, but the truth be told. I've bought several warranties and never had to use any of them. If it's not going to make much difference in your payment, assuming you will have a payment, the peace of mind is worth it. Just make sure you keep up with the scheduled maintenance, insurance companies love to take money in, but hate to pay it out. They may want proof if you have an expensive repair.

I personally thing extended warranties are a waste of money. They're legalizes gambling, you bet that you will have problems, they bet that you won't. They'll be the ones that win.

I am the original owner of a 2008 vert that I took delivery of 11/2007. I now have 81K on the clock and have begun to experiance mechanical issues. Had to replace the power steering pump about two months ago and the starter last week. The cost of the repairs came in well below what an extended warranty would have cost. I do as much maintenance as I can without a lift, such as changing brake components, shocks and other suspension parts.
If you are not comfortable without a warranty then get one. A friend of mine had a warranty through his auto insurance coverage that was reasonable. Enjoy the ride!!

I bought my 2012 with 6k miles so I still have factory warranty left. I bought an extended to last me til 2020 for that peace of mind.
It's my first corvette so I'm not sure what to expect. Had the car 7 months and only put about 1200 miles so I don't think I'll need the extended. I'm about to cancel it soon.
Plus if you modify your car which most of us do, your warranty is sometimes voided anyway.

If you are buying from a GM dealer tell them you want the CPO warranty, I think I paid about $400 for mine, 12 month 12,000 mile B2B.

See the link from BearZ06 above.
I sold a low mileage car (not a Vette) that was part of my mother's estate, and I thought it was in perfect condition. However, I insisted the buyer transfer the extended warranty for a small transfer fee. A couple of months later, the motor seized up. Cost of replacement was a small deductible. I would have really felt horrible had there not been a warranty.
There may be a length of coverage that you want to get just to make sure there isn't something about to take place. You may be able to extend it before it expires if you have any reason to do that.
If you can get the service record for the car, it may have had no repairs and did have all scheduled maintenance. That could perhaps put you at ease without buying the insurance.

I bought my 2008C6 as a GM Certified Pre-owned with 14000 miles in 2011 and opted to also buy the extended warranty. The second year I owned it the clutch master cylinder left me stranded. The towing and repairs were all covered. I was happy as a clam.

Mine had two issues...Would not have paid fr the Extended Warranty. IT's a Corvette. Low mileage. Does not need extended Warranty. You need OPTIONS when you go to service it outside the dealer.

When these Cars break they can be expensive to fix. Especially, if you can't work on it yourself. An extended warranty does wonders for your peace of mind.
