Default XM Satellite Radio

My car is 08 C6 , my wife drives a Hyundai Sonata. We have XM for both cars. What should we be paying for this subscription ? We have no add ons like Howard Stearn.

I have Howard Stern and don't pay any extra. My Corvette runs a little less than $100. You have to be ready to tell them that you want to stop the service. They will negotiate with you. Make sure that the royalty fees are included in your negotiated price. I have two other cars that have satellite and the next time they come up for renewal I'll try to leverage it even more.

If you want the best deal possible, ask for the cancel department, then they will give you a better deal than the initial offer.
It's sad, but most every company do the same thing.

Whatever your paying, you can definitely get a better deal from them.
$100.00 sounds like it's a decent price for sure. That's what I got as well after threatening to cancel.

Good luck

I called up to cancel auto renewal on my two vehicles that was costing me $365 annually and negotiated a 6 month deal at $23 per vehicle. I will do the same in July when that deal runs out. I had no idea and learned this from posts on this forum on XM. Be firm and they will fold. Don't jump at their first offer...they'll go lower.

I don't think they'll only allow you to do the 6 month @ 23 + 8 for fees repeatedly. I got it on one of my new vehicles only to align with my multiple vehicles to renew on exact same day. I pay $150/year for 2 vehicles that are driven enough to get the benefit of XM.

Never give them a credit card. Have them bill you. They will try to make you pay a few dollars extra for the billing but will fold when you refuse to pay that.

What a horrible company!

You can get yourself a plan for the basic subscription at $5/mo that you can keep renegotiating every 5-6 months. I have been doing this for years now.

I have been doing this for three radios for years also. Just mark your calendar for 1-2 days before the renewal date. I always send them a check. They do not have my CC or e-mail. 15 years of XM come August...

That's just way to much hassle! I go into convulsions once a year when I renew.

They will. I've not paid more than ~$25 for 5 months for 6 years.

I have it on my 2010 Malibu, and every year I go through the same dance. I call and threaten to cancel. I get told they can't continue the one year special that's expiring (which I've had since the original XM trial ran out). Then I tell them that I won't renew unless I receive the same price. Then I'm transferred to another rep. Then they fold.

I'm paying $100/year for XM Select.

On the GS, I paid $28 last year for a five month subscription. Then I called to cancel it for winter, and was told that I could 'suspend' the account, and that would waive a 'restart' fee when I was ready to renew it.

I called them in April to unsuspend the account, and I got a six month plan (XM Select) for $25.

I guess if they have enough customers paying full retail (I think XM Select is $164 plus taxes), then it makes sense for us to take advantage of their 'unique' discount plan. I just hate to have to call and go through this every year. I asked if I could pay for multiple years at $100, but was told I couldn't. You have to go through the pain every year.

I pay $98 a year plus a $5 check fee because I won't give them my credit card. Just got my renewal and they want $204. Won't happen. Doesn't come due till July, so I'll wait till they start calling at the last minute and then get the deal I want.
NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER. Pay the $5 fee and be done with it. Otherwise, they have your info for the following year and they'll nail you for the highest fee.

THERE'S FREE PLAY NOW UNTIL 6/1. 20 BUCKS FOR 6 MONTHS gets you limited play. 93 or 98sih a year gets you more, but prices are going up.

$104 a year, tax tags out the door, for the past several years. Always let them bill you, always threaten to not renew. I'm never nasty about it, I just tell them that I can't afford an increase but I'll gladly renew for the same price.

I go through the same situation every year BUT I tell them they can do a one time charge on my CC. I save their check /bill charge and I have never been charged automatically.

Went through the annual game. Invoiced me for $207. Told them they had to do much better to keep me. They offered me a reduced plan (90 channels of music only) for $140. Told them not acceptable, as I listen to comedy stations most of the time. Then they put me on hold for about 15 minutes, came back with offer of $118 to renew my existing plan for one year. That was acceptable.

Too bad this has to happen every year. It is the same with On Star renewal.

Dropped them earlier this year. Did the $25 for 6 months thing for a while, then missed one and got billed full price.

Now I have Spotify premium on my phone via the line-in jack on front of stereo. Works great. Would be even better with bluetooth, which I'll have once I upgrade the radio later.
