2022 Corvette of the Year Finalist -- Unmodified
2021 C6 of the Year Winner - Unmodified
An acquaintance of mine and his wife (early 50's), and I were talking this past weekend about my Corvette. As we spoke, he told me, I just bought a Corvette. Well, it is a new Z06. He's never owned a car like this before, and his wife told me that he has "always wanted one". After she walked away, he tells me that he took it up to 180mph. I thought then, this isn't going to turn out well. Someone who has never owned or driven a car like this, who 'thinks' he knows all about how to drive them, telling me he's already taken it up to 180mph on a back country highway. I hope he gains some sense before he kills himself, his wife and/or an innocent by-stander.
He asked me, how fast will you car go? I just said, "A lot faster than I'm willing to drive it on the street". He didn't say much after that.

I'd like to know if the car was manual or automatic.
The programing on the automatic cars has been so bad that it could many times induce a crash just by the way it refuses to downshift. You end up having to floor it to make it downshift from 6th, and then it does a 4 gear downshift to second, and now you have the pedal all the way to the floor, and the car suddenly become a rocket.
The problem is not so much not being able to handle the power, but the power from the car is not delivered in a smooth and linear fashion, due to the terrible programming of the transmission shifts. It is nearly impossible to drive the car and get smooth power application. You can either have enough power to keep the car at a constant speed, or all the power all at once, with no inbetween settings.

My ZR1 is costing me less than $500 per year with AMICA. The number of outlier severe corvette crashes is relatively small. Also due to a largely more mature group of owners that can afford them.

The Corvette is not a dangerous car, however many of the owners are. When ask how fast is that car, I tell people it's faster than you can think. So you must be careful until you understand the cars, and your limitations.

It's that damn birthday thing, so just avoid them. What worked for me, was simply celebrating anniversaries of my 39th birthday (Jack Benny style) and the reaction times quickly recovered.

When I was 69, I had consistent reaction times at the dragstrip below .050. The day I turned 70, the consistency faded so much that I occasionally was getting up to a full .7xx seconds before I reacted.

There's a reason insurance companies charge higher rates for young guys than for us more mature drivers.

This thread is about a 44 year old guy who was driving recklessly and lost his life as a result.
I know that because I read the article. What article were you reading?
Where does a person, 70+ years of age come into play here? Because the OP mentioned a 73 year old?
He utilizes every opportunity to bash anyone over 60 like they were breathing his air.
Are you one of those guys that feels that no one should have the audacity to live past 60, and your feelings just slipped out as you were typing?

OP...Another Newbe Kills Himself With His Corvette...most dangerous car in america strikes again. Really. You should write newspaper articles with your sensationalist verbiage. Or, perhaps it would be more easily understood if I said:
