Default mufflers worth $1400 or more?

My exhaust is still stock and I want to start somewhere, so I thought maybe a set of Corsa Sport mufflers. They claim they are good for about 20hp. Has anyone done just the mufflers? And if so could you feel the difference in the seat of your pants? Or was your wallet just lighter? I have a hard time believing a pair of mufflers is worth $1400-1500! That's nuts!

Oh yeah, they claim up 15 hp gain. That's about $100 per 1hp. That's a bad ratio... lol. I just don't see why they are so expensive, makes me wonder if it justifies the cost?

Corsa's are expensive, but they are known for quality and no drone. You'd be getting the best. HP gains... don't know.

Mufflers will not gain that much, if any power. The stock base (Non-NPP) have made up to 650hp. NPP have supported over 1000hp.

An axle-back exhaust on a C6 is nothing more than a preference of sound. Unless you are dealing with forced induction or some wildly powerful and big CI NA motor.

Dual 2.5" exhaust is more than enough flow for most applications.

Larger gains in power are made with longtube headers and a tuned x pipe. They work to equalize exhaust pulses to aid in scavenging exhaust from the cylinder.

Or you could try drilling holes in your mufflers for free as mentioned on another thread around here somewhere.

Uh yeah... ok... if I owned a Honda civic that I paid less than $1000 for, I might just drill holes in my mufflers and ruin them. In fact I might just take them off and hang them on the wall!

Search for that thread. It's from a week or so ago. Really.

Unfortunately you're seeing the corvette tax. The parts you're paying for is only a few hundred dollars.

Stock NPP claims a 6HP gain over non NPP so a 10HP gain doesn't sound to un realistic with Corsa mufflers.

I put Corsa Sports on my C6 a few months ago. I don't notice anything different frrom a power standpoint. But it sure sounds a whole lot better!

I think a cat back change is really just a sound level change. Minimal HP if any will be noticed. Headers is more where the bang for the $$$ is in HP if you are looking for that outside of Cam/Heads/FI, etc..

Originally, I was going to just swap out the headers, and leave the exhaust stock. But I would have swapped the exhaust anyway, so I did it first.

Corsa is great quality but I wouldn't expect those hp gains. I don't know how picky you are, but I'd just pick up a used set. I got mine on ebay for $550 shipped and there's nothing wrong with them

Being stainless steel unless there is shipping damage they should last a lifetime. Put my Corsa Sports on my 06 and had them swapped to my 07. Love the sound with long tubes.

As is well known, going to aftermarket mufflers adds negligible HP. You are just buying a different sound, not adding performance.

I think they add as much hp as the npp does when compared to the stock non npp muffler. But the sound is the most important factor. 6 hp will not be noticed.

Yeah, I am starting to think the ads that have the phrase "up to xx hp gain" are misleading at best. I think you only get the "up to" value if you have added other things as well. It is more of a synergy of parts, ie. headers, high flow cats, x-pipe & mufflers. Same on the intake side. Cold air intake numbers are contingent on air flow bridge, tb, intake manifold and even exhaust. So I guess I should just get some headers, but that means I need a different x-pipe, and then I might as well get the mufflers, at which point I have spent $4k for an entire exhaust system!

It's only been read 141,000 times:

If you want a little more sound and a seat of pants difference, Do this mod and get a good tune. $400 vs. $1400
