Default Whistling noise from under hood at slow speeds. WTH?

There is a whistling noise coming from the engine bay that I can hear when driving city streets around 1000 rpm both under light acceleration and when coasting. It's not a big deal, but it's there.

Anybody have this happen with your C6? My car is a 2006 stock coupe, no engine mods, just have Corsa x-pipe and exhaust.

Any and all responses appreciated.

Yeah I have that problem

Harmonic Balancer something else to consider. Search youtube for sound examples.

Actually could be a few things. Need to get under and check. I know its not the best answer but hard to diagnose without seeing it, hearing it.

Is there a hidden supercharger?

No, no supercharger. It is hard to describe....but it's like there a little person hiding under the hood that decides to let out a whistle when the rpm's are right around 1000 and I'm driving under 30 mph or so whether accelerating or slowing down.

Seems to be right in front of me in that engine bay. Are there any hoses I should be looking at that might be loose?

Another thought is the cowl...they have a tendency to sometimes develop a little gap that air squeezes through causing a whining sound....look for even the smallest gap between cowl and windshield.....silicone is a quick and easy fix..

As the famous cartoonist George Booth would suggest ……….. Check for the 'mother-in-law trapped under the hood' whistling Dixie ………...

It's definitely somewhere in the engine bay. I opened up the hood today and I could hear that whislte ever so slightly at idle. It becomes more pronounced at around 1k rpm and then goes away at anything higher.

No varraram cold air. Everything under the hood is bone stock.

Mine has the same thing...here is what you do.
Go get about 2 to 3 feet of plastic tubing and use it like a stethoscope.
Have someone rev the and listen around.....
I just did it and it was my alternator.
My 2008 did it too so I am guessing its your alternator too....tiny whistle a bit of a rev goes up in volume than goes back down in idle but is still present...right?

Was it a bad alternator you found, or is that just the noise they make? Also, did your whistling noise persist past 1000 rpm on up or just right around that and go away at higher rpm?

Aint bad, on the last two Vettes I have had they both made that annoying noise. Never broke down on my first one and charged that battery fine...so I will let it be for now. If it gets worse I will just change it out myself. ...

yep low RPM whine higher RPM nope...

Default Noise

Mine do the same and I think it could be the harmonic balancer.

if you didn't have the noise before it could be the alternator on the way out...but if you have been driving for the past few days then it probably would have died by now

It's been doing it a long time...probably a year or more and the alternator has been working just fine. I'm just now deciding to see what the possible cause of that noise could be.

It's not a major thing, not even a bothersome annoyance, it's so slight.. But if there's a fix, I'd be interested in it. Car only has 36,4xx miles on it. I've had it 3 years...bought it from a guy who only put 7,500 miles on it on 6 years.

Did you pinpoint the location with the plastic tubing like I mentioned?....interested in finding out where yours is!
