C6 Rearend Life?

C6 Rearend Life?
I was curious what is the life expectancy of the rear on the C6 corvettes... over the past few months i have been keeping an eye on all of the used 06+ corvettes popping up under 25k and i have come across more than one that made noise in the rear that didnt sound normal..... and every one of these dealers told me it is probably a tire or what not.. but it distinctively sounded like it was coming from the rearend to me as it was more of a metal sound than a tire hum..

Melting Slicks
I have had to replace both Axle shafts and both rear wheel bearings before 75k miles.
I bought my car with 64K. The low cost offset any expense for repairs. I still made out.
The differential oil is important also.
If the car has low mileage, I wouldn't worry about it.
These cars are easy to fix DIY.
The only car I wouldn't want is one which was use 1/4 mile at a time. Not sure how you could tell.

GM came out with a new C6 differential oil in 2008.
Dexron LS Gear Oil 75W90
P/N 88862624
It is about $20 a quart and it takes about 2 quarts.
No additives are needed.
Changing to this oil immediately fixed my differential noise problem.

Don't let that noise turn you away from an '06. Get that fluid changed with the proper stuff and all will be well. I know this to be true.

If you are getting noise from the diff, a fluid change with the new stuff that DMS50 mentioned, is a good start. Note that older C6s may name a different fluid in the manual, but the new stuff supersedes the old. Use the new version, with no additional additives. It's good.
We changed our diff fluid at about 7k miles, and then again at 50k, with a sample sent to Blackstone Labs. They said the fluid and the diff itself were in excellent condition and recommended we go longer before the next change.
We also had a rear axle bearing start to go bad at about 70k miles, hard to tell what was making the noise until it got worse.
