Default New to speed...does it get easier?

So I've had the Vette for almost a year. I love every part of it, except I just can't accelerate too fast sometimes.

From a dead stop, if I gun it...i sometimes get this tight feeling in my stomach and it reminds me of some rides as at a park like Six Flags. I suppose its the GForces at work. In any case, I suppose I just don't do it often enough because I still get that feeling once in a while when I go too fast.

It's really fun on one hand, but if I can't get over this..I'm afraid I won't ever be able to max out and really push the car to its limits when I want to.

I'll admit, the car scares me sometimes because it's too fast. Will I ever get over it?

Be gentle...

It's a fast auto for sure. There's nothing wrong with being a little afraid of it. I'm sure most of use have never maxed it out. 200 mph is faster than I want to go. Learn to respect it and you will be fine.

Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs always said it best: it's good to have an "appropriate fear" of your opponent. I would say the same applies here. Stay cautious and you likely won't become a YouTube video. As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters.

EDIT: And if you ever want to "max" the car, take it to the track.

It took me probably 6 months until I went WOT in my Z. Not that I was scared but just know the car demands respect. You'll get used to it!

Be aware of things that get you in trouble with high output cars.

I make sure roads are dry and clear. Make sure tires are not cold. Make sure oil temp is over 150. Make sure the steering wheel is straight at launch.

its not that i dont have a respect for the LS3's power, but sometimes I just feel like the throttle doesnt open up as much as it should, or I need more power.

Wasn't there a study done about how the throttle actually only works at 3% when you arent at WOT? I think somewhere in the COW Booster thread it was stated.

Curious here... what did you drive before? how old are you? and is it a manual or an auto?

Hmm, WOT was the reason I bought my car on the spot! Went on a test drive, cold road and cold crappy GY RFs, WOT from a start and the car spun the tires and got sideways after 70 mph, SOLD!

That being said, it's *YOUR* car. Drive it at your level and comfort. You would be surprised by how many owners who have never seen triple-digits, much less anything above 80 mph. And that's OK.

Enjoy *your* car.

You'll get used to it... if you're like many others and myself, you'll want more and more and more. it's an addiction!

try some Dramamine and then step into it more often the car will feel slow after a while and you will need more power and better tires

I've driven lots of cars. The last 10 years mostly pickups and SUVs.

The last car I had before the C6 was an Infinity G37 lease. It was the first intro to anything close to speed...and I was hooked. Before that I had a KIA Sorrento.

I'm 41 and my 2012 is a manual. I will take it to the track next month for the first time.

By max it out, I meant I actually want to do the 0-60 in 4.3 seconds as advertised. I haven't timed myself yet, but will try soon. I'm just hoping I can push through and not lift before I can hit it.

Thanks guys, glad to know I'm not alone!
