Default Use reverse to save battery?

A dealer told me that putting the car in reverse when parking or storing will save battery power? Is this true? Also true with C5?

I was under impression this only applied to the 2005 M/T car but I may be wrong. Sure someone will set us straight.

2005 was the only year this procedure applies to.

Correct - only applied to 2005 C6s with manual tranny.

If a dealer says otherwise, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

It is true and necessary for 05 model year manual tranny cars. Not necessary for subsequent year c6's although I read on here that it doesn't hurt to leave it in reverse no matter the year. Most CHEVY dealers know next to nothing about the CORVETTE and it's nuances...that is also true!!

If you don't have a 2005 manual transmission then it is time to find a new dealer before they do some real damage with their gross ignorance. If you do have a 2005 MT then I'm surprised you don't already have a dead battery.

All true. In August, I bought an '05 M6 from a Chevy/GMC dealer. They were to detail it before I picked it up. It took four days as they drained the battery overnight and would charge it during the day then it again drained overnight, on and on. They put a new battery in it in the morning, moved it to the service bay, and got it detailed. They knew nothing about putting it in reverse when shut down.

The better one is the chiming and DIC telling you to put the car into reverse if you shut the car off in any other gear.

I have an 05 and it never lets me forget to put it in reverse. Between the messages, chimes, and everything staying on, how can you forget. I don't think the car will even lock when it's not in reverse. Not much of a pain, I am used to it now.

Just the way it was set up by GM. Have never seen the reason why.

Doesn't matter that you've owned numerous manuals, you've never owned an 05 Vette manual. Many have and many can tell you that you've got to do it or wind up with a dead battery.

"Just because" isn't really a good answer, anybody KNOW the reason why?

Obviously GM screwed something up, I'm just wondering what it was?

Reverse is the best gear to have it in if you forget to apply the E brake, so they did not screw this up to start with. The problem was that drivers where not putting the car in reverse when turning the car off, draining the battery and complaining, and why the decided to stop using this instead (same with the problematic steering wheel lock that they dumped as well in 06).

As for bypassing this, not the end of the world. It just takes a relay that will charge up when the car is in the on position to pull the source signal instead of the car actually in reverse, then when the car is turned off, relay goes back to an off state to send the signal to trick the car into thinking that its in reverse to power down the system.
(read if you just jump the reverse switch full time, then the car thinks it's in reverse the whole time when it running and throws codes).

Bluntly, it not a bad thing, and makes sure that you have the car in reverse when you go to shut it down, instead of not in gear or another gear that will not hold the car enough if you forget to apply the E brake.

As for tying shut down into the E brake instead to make sure that you have it set before shutting the car down, really can't do this since if you track the car, the last thing that you want to do is pull the E brake with hot rotors to turn the car off/ get it to sleep, since you will melt/glue the E brake pad to the inside of the hot drums.
