Default What is the Best Bang for Your Buck sticky street tire 285/245 combo

I have had falken 452 on the car since I bought it 3 years ago, they were ok but I don't have anything to compare them too as far as personal experience. so I have needed new tires for over a year and I have been babying the car, which is no fun at all. I do not track the car but I drive it as hard as one can on the street. I have no confidence in my tires now in a corner, what is the best, yet least expensive sticky tire for street use. I have another thread going asking about the idea of jumping up to 305/265 combo on stock rims. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...base-rims.html
I want whatever is going to give me the best grip and therefor inspire the most confidence driving it. I do like the idea of the 305 tire, but am not willing to sacrifice handling for bragging rights or the look of the car. All opinions welcome, thanks guys and gals, MERRY CHRISTMAS

Is the tread wear rating tell you how soft or sticky the tire is? or is there another letter or number I should be looking at?

It's called "UTOG" rating. More info can be found here; http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=48

Yes, the lower the number, the better grip and less tread ware....to a point! The "UTOG" rating is not a calibrated standard, so a Goodyear 280 and a BFG 280 most likely will not preform exactly the same. The rating is only good for giving you an idea of what to expect from that tire.

Unless your going to track your car, just how grippe do you need them to be? You are very lucky driving a base C6; you have lots of tires to choose from over wide body drivers.

the Bridgestone s04 pole positions seem to be a very well liked tire. How much grip do I need? lol I am just tired of not being able to drive the car hard into a corner, but I guess pretty much anything is better than what I have on it now. if money were no problem I would probably just get the pilot ss

and your lucky to be driving a gs, which in my opinion is the nicest body style of any corvette

I'm running stones on my GS, no issues. Here's something I posted a while back; https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-position.html I now at 25+K miles, the rears have another 5K or so before hitting the wear bars but the fronts are good for another 20K....

I'm pleased with the grip, even when giving "Demo" rides while instructing at a DE track day, but they will give up a lot of grip when temps go below 45 degrees.....not too big of an issue in the Southern States.

After the OEM GY RF's, 2 sets of Invos, a short 10K on Mich A/s, I'm now on S04's. With not much more than 10K on them, they still feel good in the corners, but I'm hoping for another 20K before I need replacements.

Bang for the buck? NT05. Not much more than a standard set of tires and they're a grippy track tire. That said, probably not a great choice for a DD.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport and BFG KDW2 are both great tires for the money, if on the pricey side.

Hankook RS-3 version 2. That's what I would run on my c6z if they had appropriate sizes.

I have had 3 sets of tires on my 2008 and the Continental Extreme Contact DW's are the best ones by far for off-the-line hook. A very inexpensive mid-quality tire and unlike my last set on the rear, actually seem to be keeping their balance and aren't walking on the rim. I got a pair of 285's on promotion for about $215 ea, but I think they list for $260 or so normally. I don't have the fronts yet but if they hold up ok I probably will buy the matching pair for their as well.

^the above statement is a fact. Nothing I have ever put on will hook from stop like an Extreme Contact DW. The sidewalls are soft and that is their Achille's heel...I must admit and turn-in on them is unfortunately not immediate whereas a Pilot SS is like a monorail. For the money, tread life, tread depth, grip and other factors...if you look long term...this tire is the best overall value by a large margin. I have made a compromise...Extremes out back and Pilot SS up front.

FWIW, the new Falken FK453 Is a great tire, miles ahead of the older 452. Great value too if you order them from discount tire direct. Loved them on my 2007 w/ Z51.

Love the Bridgestone S-04. According to the HUD I was able to pull 1.18 G's but I am interested in the RE-11 since I don't have to worry about much rain here in Southern California

KDW 2 is my vote. Had them on my 06 bolton coupe and had no issues hooking up in 1st. Now have firestone firehawks on my 09 and lose traction in 2nd almost every time.

^TO THE ABOVE 2 GENTLEMAN:

S-04's are likely what I will buy next if Tire Rack holds out...just to say i tried them for a grand or so. Nosferatu got them and from other posts I have seen they do not last real long. But what Bridge/Firestone tire does? SUV or extreme summer is irrelevant for that brand. As far as KDW's...I ran them for 5 years but got sick of the truck tire sound when tread depth suffered. Excellent in wet and dry spin is SO linearly predictable it is no wonder the drifters love them. I could not have a cell phone conversation after long however due to tire noise, among the worst going.

I couldn't even get new kdw2s to hook from a stop on my bolt on ls1 camaro. They did okay rolling but i don't think I would put them on my c6.
