Default Radio replacement

Love the car but hate the radio. Can hardly receive fm reception and when it does it usually is static. Doesn't go loud enough etc etc. anyway I'd like to know what others have done. I'd like to start with maybe replacing the head until and gps and then speakers if possible. Any recommendations? Thanks

I have trouble recalling exactly, but i replaced my head unit with a Pioneer and after i was done i had trouble getting any FM reception, the Sirrius Satellite reception was good but the FM bad and prior to the new installation the FM was fine, i went to the audio section on this forum and posted my problem turned out the FM antenna in these cars get power and i did not re attach the power wire correctly, I can't exactly recall the what and how i fixed it, but i'm sure there's someone here that can, if by chance it's the same problem with the antenna not getting power that i had, you will need to fix it as there is no way to get any FM reception on any radio without it.

I added 6.5" components in the doors, a JL stealthbox, and a 3 channel amp. Kept the stock headunit and added an Audiocontrol LC2.

I'd suggest starting with some cheap drop in coaxials as a first step.

Yes I did and the FM reception is great now, but there is a pin B3 as i recall in the main plug in the back that needed to be in the system this was a little over two years ago so memory is a little fuzzy.

After I replaced the head unit with a Kenwood GPS unit and tweaking the equalizer (I scooped mids), the sound output was great and much louder that stock even with factory soeakers. Adding a cargo partition will help with the rear speaker output as well.

I installed a Kenwood DNX9990HD. Very happy with it. It has the GPS included. I don't know why you want a separate GPS. Then theres my Son that uses his phone for a GPS. That would save money on the stereo. Can't see the point of upgrading the speakers, amp, etc. My Vette is to loud to be able to appreciate the upgrade, and I have NPP

PS My factory radio was fine on AM & FM. If you're having problems a new radio may not solve the problem.

One other thought. Back in the day I (1995 and earlier) I installed radios in my cars. I did the Vette too and it was a nightmare. Well worth paying someone that's done it before.

Just updated the Radio. Reception is better but won't know until I go for an extended ride. I followed the direction from this thread to perform the update. Follow the link 3 or 4 comments down
