Scratch Texas Off The List
Well, September 1st, 2014 brought on a new law in Texas which now officially requires front license plates on all vehicles. There’s an interesting story behind this in that this law was apparently already in place according to an article I read. Evidently, in 2011 legislators inadvertently removed the punishment portion of the law. Imagine that…..a ticket with no fine.
Well, looks like those days are now over with a new penalty that will stick in anyone’s craw. That would be up to a $200 stick by the way.
Now comes the decision to either pony up with some hideous license plate bracket or roll the dice. Sheeesh!

I stand corrected! So it looks like I have to scratch off NBC 5 news then from my list, too which first alerted me to the change on yesterday's 5pm broadcast. I looked it up on the ol' interweb and also found a corresponding article.....that was posted in 2013

Put on an aftermarket bracket and forget about it. Why give them an easy reason to pull you over and have you add to their revenues. JMO

If it's visible it looks like crap. California has had the two plate law forever and so far, two years and two months, no pull overs and no problems. If I park on a public street I place the front plate in the passenger side windshield. When I drive off it goes back into the rear cubby. If I ever get a bracket it would have to be that power model that allows the plate to disappear under the front end. Even then I wouldn't drive with it visible, just put it up for parking. Not sure what good it would actually do me, the traffic scofflaw that I am...

I certainly wouldn't place it in the window as I got pulled over but CA law allows for it to be 'permanently affixed' anywhere within the low and height limits. Taping it to the inside of the windshield down low passes the test for parking. I'm just not hanging it on the front of my beautiful roadster when I drive.

Where I live in Texas there are several police officers with vetts and no front plate. When they put them on there cars I will think about putting one on mine........ Ok thought about it not going to happen!

I don't think local cops will pull you over for no front plate. DPS will pull you over in a heart beat. A couple $200 fines will change your mind about not running a front plate. You still wont like it but they will get you to put one on.
before Sept 2013 fine

Why give them $200 if you get pulled over? Get an after market holder and be done with it.

Local cops, no problem. DPS is another story. I passed a DPS trooper the other day and he looked right at the front of the car. The hide a way brackets are illegal in Texas also, manual or motorized.

After thinking about this for a few weeks I decided to run a detachable plate/bracket. I'm not a proponent of drinking and driving but we've all done it. I put the plate on after a beer or two and run w/o otherwise.
