We Have a WINNER!!!!!!

It's news like this that makes me realize I won't win car show trophies because I refuse to do retarded **** like that to any of my Corvettes.
IMO, that car is absolutely RUINED.
We had a local show that I entered my nearly stock but super clean 2012 ZO6 in. There were several other very nice Corvettes that were also super clean. The 1st place trophy went to the guy with the Chrysler 300 that had blinking neon lights and lambo doors and other stuff that 13 year olds probably liked. Don't think it had a single mod that actually improved performance. I was just smh and wondering WTF is wrong with people that enough judges voted for that because the judges weren't 13 year olds.
I don't care about winning trophies. I go to the shows and meets to hang out with other gear heads and talk cars. BUT, it does make me worry about our hobby when cartoonish cars win the awards.

I enjoy car shows but have a different take. I want to see cars that are unique. Cars that I don't see in my neighborhood everyday. I personally like it when people MOD their cars to make them different than the same car next to it and I am on the downhill side of life age wise.
I scratch my head when a new car 2005 or 2014 that is stock gets some kind of award. Anyone can buy something off the showroom floor. It takes vision to make it your own. I would not go as far as some but it is their car.
Now the older cars that are brought back to stock is a different story. They are unique as well. Not many left of the road.

Sir, I agree with you in principle. Where I differ is in the execution. I like performance mods. ie. built motors, supercharger or turbo kits, better brakes, suspension (for road race or drag racing), exhaust systems, etc. etc. The type of mods I see on that red mutant are the "wrong" type of mods IMO.

I agree. If all you do is drive a brand new car to a show, you shouldn't win an award. All that person did was write a check. They didn't make the car better and if it's new, they didn't have to expend any effort yet to maintain it.

I like to see modded cars. From mild to wild. Sure the cars below are extreme and even to the point of bad taste to many, including me. But I still like the effort. If nothing else. It's an example of what not to do. For me a little mods goes a long way. For instance. I like the idea of adding the red color to the wheels. Just not that much of it.
If I saw this at a show. I would stop and look at it. Probably talk to the owner if there about it and never put them down for it as it's their effort. I would not vote for it if I was voting either.

1st place?
So the owners who did a few tasteful mods to their sparkling clean Corvettes take second behind that car. That thing is so wild I'd need sunglasses to drive it! I can't figure out car shows and how they pick 1st place winners. This looks like they gave first to the owner who added everything but the kitchen sink. It's not my cup of tea by a long shot and I'd never do that to my car even if I had the money to throw away.

You're not wrong and I don't think a car off the showroom floor should win, but something like this is over the top. This is way too much for me and if I was a judge I'd never vote for it.

C6 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
This is why I stopped doing car shows. Seems either a brand new stock car or one like this always wins.
Leave it alone or go way over the top.
I thought my car was heavily modified but I stand no chance against these modified trailer queens. Lol

Funny I happened to read this thread this morning, actually saw this car at Milford cruise-in last night.Way over the top for me. I do like the doors though. He had alot of advertising on the windshield and around the car.My guess is he mods cars for a living and this is his model. Big bucks put in this car, like it or not. I'm a purest, always will be, hate to see this done on a vette.

It does not really matter what anybody thinks....it is the customers' car to do with it as he sees fit.
That is what we all do.

Really long, so bottom line this car had the least amount of deductions in its class which was Custom B. For this reason the car and owner earned a 1st place award. Keep in mind there were many classes and many other 1st, 2nd, 3rd place awards earned here. Plus specialty awards and cash given to cars with much less to zero mods. Pat from American hydrocarbon was proud and wanted to acknowledge his customer(and if you buy his products you can be a winner too-lol wink, wink)

Corvettes at Carlisle show field is an NCCC 7 sanctioned event. Ran by the very old yet contemporary York County Corvette Club. Many classes from concours prepared to custom and all in between. If you get any kind of award here...it's a big deal.
It starts with an operations check:
-engine start -tachometer -oil pressure -ammeter -gas gauge -temperature gauge -clock -radio -power antenna -A/C or heater fan -horn -windows -parking brake/light -glove box light -courtesy lights - rear compartment lights -front parking lamps -low beam lights -high beam lights -turn signals -4 way flashers -brake lights -tail lamps -license plate lights -back up lights
Exterior:
1.Body fit: hood, trunk, doors and all panels
2.Body condition: lack of damage or evidence of repair
3.Body cleanliness and paint condition
4.Body finish: polish and luster
5.Exterior chrome and bright work
a.lack of damage
b.cleanliness finish
6.Glass: condition and cleanliness
7.Top (canvas or vinyl): condition and cleanliness
(if hardtop- judge headliner and trim
8.Gas fller area: condition and cleanliness
9.Wheels and Hub caps: condition and cleanliness
10.Tires: condition and cleanliness
11.Wheel wells: paint, condition and cleanliness
12.Visible frame and suspension parts: condition and cleanliness
Interior:
1.General Interior: including instruments, door jambs, console, ash tray, glove box and map pouch
2.Seats: condition and cleanliness
3.Doors and door panels: condition and cleanliness
4.Dash and headliner: condition and cleanliness
(includes inside of convertible top, latches etc.)
5.Carpeting: condition and cleanliness
6.Weatherstripping and rubber trim: condition and cleanliness
7:Trunk or luggage area: condition and cleanliness
Engine:
1.Compartment: including inner fenders, firewall, radiator, and front area:
a.cleanliness
b.paint: lack of overspray and neatness
2.Engine: cleanliness and condition
a.block
b.paint
c.exhaust manifolds and headers
d.air cleaner/ distributor
3.Engine accessories: condition and cleanliness (includes alternator, A/C compressor, power steering pump, power brake booster, and related hoses)
4.Hood underside: condition and cleanliness (includes weatherstripping and latches)
5.Electrical:
a.Harness condition and arrangement
b.cleanliness and lack of overspray
(Its a tough but fairly judged event. We've heard of deductions for having 3, 1/4" size dead blades of grass on the right frame rail in the engine compartment to a couple of sesame seed size pebbles on the floor board interior. Even the tiniest of Lint found in various locations).
Other than the operations check, 3 pairs of judges inspect your car. For example:Exterior, the judges start at the front, each inspects down One side, they meet at the rear then return/inspect back to the front. At this time they switch sides and continue to inspect the opposite side. After the inspection, they consult with each other about what they saw and score the car. Then they call the participant over and review what they found. You are told your score and at that point all sign the work sheet. The other sets of judges come and scrutinize your car in the same manner. It is the most consistent fairly judging formula I've seen.
You are actually competing against yourself in how well you can prepare and present your car. They show you reason for the deduction(if any). The York County Corvette Club has been doing this show for a very very long time. Apparently this car had the least amount of deductions in its class, it won. Congratulation.

Congrats to the owner and to AH for assisting. Now where can I get one of those rear wings?
