Well let me clarify one thing about the orbital just in case so there is no confusion, the orbital that I have does not spin, its more of a one handed vibrating orbital, I know some orbital have spin speeds, as this one does not have a speed control and spins lightly as you move it across the surface of the car.

As for wax, I have three, Mother's (Which I just used and wasnt impressed with the flaking that occurred during removal) Meguiars wax, and Zymol cleaner wax (like these two better). With the orbital I find I dont use as much wax and dont have that wax buildup in the creases from when doing it by hand.
I waxed the windows with these products as well as my headlights and tail lights, with no ill effects, but I also dont let them sit for very long either.

I would not use a traditional wax on glass and taillamps. I would suggest a coating designed for glass and a coating designed for lamps with a high UV protection. If you are looking for a cheap and very effective glass protectant, see if you can find Aquapel locally.

Waxing with the correct pads and products will not remove clear.
I use a DA polisher to apply LSP (last step products) as it produces the most even coverge while using the least mount of product. Great when you re detailing for $$ to save time and product

maybe i'm not up on all the current products out there.Just back in the day seemed anybody who didnt know how to handle a polisher was bringing in their cars for re-sprays.It seems that todays products have much less "cutting" power than the ole'rough and ready"lol, therefore i will reserve my comments and leave this to the "pro's".(however, and just mpop,I wouldn't take to a wheel(polisher,d.a,whatever) to a vette unless I was trying to correct an imperfection or it was a fresh paint job. (again to remove peel imperfs, etc,) JMOP.

I use Zymol and they don't recommend using any machine. In fact they don't recommend using an application pad for their Glaze. You just rub a bit in your hands and melt it into the finish Literally apply it on the surface with your hands.
