Now, Now, I rented a Shelby 500 in Hawaii and treated it with the utmost respect.

Not good used cars, but rather well-used cars, I suspect....

I used to work for Hertz. I wouldn't buy any of their cars. Most of their cars are leased. If there is an issue like an accident, etc., they cannot return them and end up having to buy them, and then sell them.

Rental cars do kill values though as if they sell for $30k then some people think all 13s should sell for $30k. Look at the previous gen Impala for example which was a great rental car but terrible value if you bought one.

I've bought rental cars in the past, although never a Corvette.

I would expect the same issues as you would find with any used Corvette with similar miles.

The power train warranty protects against issues there and, after a good inspection which you should do with any used Corvette, if there are non specific concerns buy a warranty.

I've found that the rental company's prices are low enough that you can buy the car, have it inspected, buy a warranty and still be below current dealer pricing.

Yeah, but I'd just rather not buy a car knowing that in all probability it's been thrashed.

I would prefer to pay a little more if I was looking to buy a Corvette and find a low miles garage kept car that I could tell has been well cared for. I don't think I'd ever buy a rental car that has had countless different drivers and who knows how it was driven.

Good news for me.
I'm renting a convertible from them in October.
With a bit of luck I'll get a new C7.

If they were selling for 1/2 of what a non rental would go for I still would not touch one. Not only have they been more than likely been badly abused many times they are also very high mile cars for the year.

I will not even buy a vette that was a lease car, they tend to be maintained very poorly with no upside for the person to have spent the time or effort to do so. My son has been in the car business with GM and Mercedes for twenty five years and said it is not uncommon to get a lease car back after 2 or 3 years with the original oil and filter that was in the car when delivered new.

I looked a while for a 1 owner car. I wouldn't want a car that has been driven by God only knows how many people. Plus, I bet most of them beat the snot out of it.

I rented a few of these in Orlando, LA, and Las Vegas. Honestly, being a Vette owner/lover, I treated them with respect. But, all three were sub par cosmetically. And, I can only imagine how they were beat on from a mechanical perspective. I would run away from them at any price.

A question; What did they charge to Rent a Corvette?????

Comment; I bet the poser that drives a minivan at home would be
scared to floor this car and if he did once; he would not a second time. I know movie people in LA rent a lot of cars just for props or to see someone drive up in a Corvette in a scene. I imagine a few have been driven by pros that had access to a track also and put some wear on them....If I was a professional mechanic I would be all over one!!!! Especially if I worked at a GM shop where I could get parts for a little over cost.....
