Default Skip shift fuse??

I see a fuse offered on several different websites to override the 1-4 skip shift. Is this some type of special fuse? Or would any old fuse do the trick? If so, what is the rating/load/capacity, I don't know what it's called, I'm not an electrician, but I know they come in varying "strengths".

Thanks.

Buy a 10 amp "Smart Fuse" (with a led inside) for about $2.50 and then (carefully) use a battery charger or other 12volt source to "blow it". then install in place of standard fuse in Row 12 in the fuse block under the hood.

That's it.

but buy 2 and keep one as a spare,as the smart fuse has a tendency to eventually fail. I know from experience.

My first one lasted two years.

I used an Exacto knife and just snipped mine. Same thing.

The short version, you are allowing enough current through the fuse (#10 in the fuse box) so the system can check and see the cags solenoid in the trans so it does not through a code, but not enough power to actual go through the fuse/line to the solenoid so the solenoid will actual active (read 2.2K resistor instead of a 10 amp fuse).

How the smart Glow blow fuse work, you have a 36K resistor, then two one way LED to comes up to about to the needed 2.2K work of resistance. The smart glows work until the LED burns out, then you either need to install the fuse 180 so the other led that is not blow lights up/completes the needed circut past (so you don't get a code), or install a new blow fuse (depending of the smart glow fuse type).

As for the fuses with the 222/2.2K resistors solders in between the cut fuse link, they last a lot longer since they are less likely to burning out like the leds in the smart fuses.

And yes, using the resistor instead of an actual 10 amp fuse on a C-6, is the same as putting the resistor at the trans plug with the plug type cags kits. It was on the C-5 that fuse #10 had more than just the Cags circuit running through that fuse, so you had to use the trans plug resistor type device down line instead on the C-5's.

To add, the resistor fuse will only keep the cags solenoid from activating, but you are still going to get the dash light for the 1 to 4 cags shift. To bypass the system so even the Cags dash light does not come on, then it takes a ECM tune to dial it out that way instead.

Buy the CAGS Skip Shift Bypass that plugs into the trans for the same price. It works better, I tried the fuse and it caused a rough shift from 1-2 when it was supposed to skip. It worked, just not great.

I tossed my fuse and bought the trans mounted bypass and never had another issue. Shifts as smooth as silk.

If you really want the fuse they are all over Ebay and Amazon for $15.

YMMV

I tried the fuse but did as I found on forums. Bought smart fuse and took out the wire in the fuse so it lights up like it is blown and mine shifts like butter. Just did it last week.

I also used a CAGS Skip Shift Bypass when I had my CTS-V. For my 07 C6 it does not bother me that much. I just learned to sort of double shift when it wants to go to fourth and then it'll go into second. This works for m because the only time CAGS is activate is when I am casual driving anyways.

I used the Cags fuse to eliminate it. Worked great with no issues. I then purchased a Diablo tuner and used that to tune it out completely.

Same here and used the Cags fuse and it worked flawlessly. It was till in the car after two years and never had a problem. When it's time to sell, just pop it out and put in the original. Works like charm.
