Default Extended warranties

Just bought a 2008 c6 corvette with 47,000 miles on it and was thinking about purchasing a extended warranty. There are so many on the internet. Has anybody had any experiences in buying one that is good?

I am always cautious about a third party extended warranty. Many make you jump through to many hoops to get reimbursed. However, I'm fairly sure there are some good ones out there, but do read the fine print carefully. It would be nice if the Big Three would offer some type of extended warranty for these type vehicles. Sorry I can't recommend one.

Consensus opinion is NONE of them are worth messing with EXCEPT GMPP. Your car is too old for that but....I suggest you first contact Dennis Fichtner. Most here buy the GMPP through him but he now offers 1 or 2 alternatives that may work for you.

Again anyone needing a quote, please send me your VIN and current miles for an accurate quote.

dfichtner@fichtnerchevrolet.com

If he can't help you, I strongly suggest you save your money, seed a savings account just for the Vette, add to it as much as you can or want to every month until you accumulate enough to give you peace of mind that you can cover any unexpected repair without affecting the family money.

Here's another version of my rant on the savings account if you want to look at it:

Funny that I just watched an "American Greed" special about US Fidelis auto warranty company. Google it. HUGE scam. GMAC or nothing for me.

I will chime in on this post, if you just bought or are buying a USED Vette the only opportunity you have to buy an extended warranty is from the selling dealer on day of purchase. The car must be under the factory 36/36 to qualify for any kind of extended warranty if you want to buy from an outside source(like myself) so all 200,2009, 2010 and most 2011's will not qualify. If you purchase the car privately you are out of luck unless the car has a GMPP on it and then with the previous owners consent and sign off on the transfer form the warranty can be transferred to you.
Those of you that are stating GMAC or nothing, well GMAC was part of the bankrupcy in 2010 so GMPP is an ALLY BANK product and has no part of GM

It's kind of a crap shoot..get nothing and just hope for the best..or spend 1500-2000-2500..and hope that the warranty is worth it's weight in paper..I'm a little familiar with extended warranties and If I've heard complaints about what they don't cover once I've heard them 1000 times..seals..gaskets...this.. that...read the fine print before you do anything.

So has anyone had problems using their GMPP coverage now that it is a part of Ally and not GM?

I bought my 2010 GS at an Audi dealer back last October. It had just over 14K miles and looked brand new. The Audi dealer offered me an extended warranty. I bought it because of all of the electronics and computerization in the vehicle.

Read them very carefully. The bold print gives and the fine print takes away.

I purchased Easy Care-Total Care when I bought my 08 Base. Glad I did have used it several times for minor issues with no problems getting them to pay. Has saved me around $500.00 already and I have a degree of piece of mind knowing I have it.

I bought a third party extended warranty through the dealership when we bought our 2013 Grand Sport. I was hesitant as I have had issues with third party warranties in the past. I was assured by the dealership that they were accredited through VPA. I never checked up on them and now a year later I did some checking and found some pretty nasty reviews about their service or lack there of. Also I see based on TBong's link they are not on the VPA list. I'm pretty sure that I wasted $2XXX.

I've lost money on every extended warranty I've ever bought. Something either goes wrong during the regular warranty or something goes wrong after the extended warranty expires. Never fails. I don't buy them anymore.

I have to chime in on this. When I bought my Vette new from one of the forum vendor dealerships, I also bought the extended warranty the same day and was assured it was a GMPP and forked over the money with them saying "it will be in the mail within the week" After a month, I still hadn't received it, so I called the dealership to ask why. Their response was "it should have been in your glovebox with your paperwork" but it wasn't. So they said they'd look into it. Another week went by with nothing. So another phone call, and 5 days later I get it in the mail only to find that it WAS NOT a GMPP, but another company. So I placed a call to a local dealership and ask them who this company was and if they would honor any work needing done. Their answer was "No. That warranty is ONLY for the dealership you bought the car from. It wouldn't be honored by any other dealership anywhere except that one." So a phone call back to the vendor dealership who told me that I needed to contact the warranty company to cancel it and they would refund my money. Called the warranty company, they needed it in writing, but it was too late. I only had 60 days to cancel and it was 60 days that day. Keep in mind it took me nearly 8 weeks to even get it in the mail. Not my fault. So I ended up in a heated arguement with the dealership, he even called my wife a bitch because she was arguing with him about refunding our money. All in all.........I did get my money back but it left a bitter taste in my mouth for this dealership. Bottom line is ONLY get a GMPP. Got mine from Denny Fichtner and now have a GENUINE GMPP. Denny's the one to deal with and trust.

When I bought my 2008 two years ago I purchased a MasterTech extended warranty. I bought the premium level and have used it once and they were great to work with. About three months ago I have the oil pan gasket replaced. The total bill was over $600, and it cost me just the $100 deductible. I hope I don't need it again, but it does give me peace of mind.

The odds are that you will never recoup the money spent on any of these. And the odds are that the insurance company will make a profit on what you bought. Insure yourself.

Also there are exceptions to all rules but remember they are exceptions and not the rule.
