I think my priorities are in line with your thoughts.....the corvette will only be a weekend driver, used to tear up some mountain roads of course. Should I be worried about the mechanical parts on the 11 year old Z06 failing even with such low mileage? How many years until the rubber on these cars starts to fall apart out of purely age.......
If the bushings start to go, it's a great opportunity to replace them with poly bushings.

The '08. It's a much better all around car with many improvements. The LS3 is a monster.

I would go for the 08. Sounds like where you are right now you need something that will fit into your schedule. The Z is a great track car but the 08 is a better all around car. My wife likes riding in my C6 way more than she liked riding in the C5. Good luck with either choice. Both are thrilling but for different things

An 11 year old car with well less than a thousand miles a year on it would be a huge red flag. Plus, the LS3 is faster, quicker and far more sophisticated. It is a relatively late model, low mileage car. The Z, a question mark. You can do a lot better on the price, though.

The car has never been tracked. The rocker panels are mint. It has the original tires. There is no rubber residue on the inside of the fender wells. The car belongs to a 68 year old guy that bought it new.

actually, given those two cars I would opt for the C5Z. I would not buy a C6 without Z51 and manual transmission personally.
I've owned two LS2 C6's with Z51 and manual and also a 2004 Z06.
They are rather similar cars from a performance standpoint. The C6 has a stiffer structure which is honestly it's biggest improvement, IMHO - far fewer squeaks and rattles, it's just a tighter platform. I also like the targa top option in the C6 and the additional cargo space which really comes in handy if you do ever get to use it for a weekend get-a-way with your wife.
So I would look for a C6 with a bit higher miles - if you are willing to spend low $30Ks you should be able to find an 08 with Z51 and 3LT with maybe 30K or so miles. Or you could find a low miles garage queen LS2 with 3LT and Z51 for the same price range as that C5Z, and honestly I do think it is a better car.
