On a bright note, having a significant population of gators in the local neighborhood does tend to cut down on midnight stalkers, prowlers and pervs/peepers….

Here's a 1 year old American toad resting in front of my 'vette.
Similar to the 'gator in that they both have voracious appetites.
Anyone else see an echo in the mugs of the toad and 'vette?

Default Go Gators

I had them in the backyard at my folks house when growing up. they sound like giant bullfrogs and let me tell you, you don't want your curiosity to get the best of you when mama gator is guarding her eggs in your back yard

I also had some water moccasins, I lost my father's mower in the lake by throwing it at it

We have a pond in the back. I swim in it. I figure as long as i see Ducks,Heron and deer on the other side....No Alligators.

Its the dam little green tree frogs I have to take off the house at night and move them to the dock that are loud.

Always gators in my parents back yard which is on a lake. I think one of the big ones got someones little dog. They get rid of all the big ones as preventive maintenance now I believe lol

Actually, it's very rare to see one, either large or small.
I've been living in Florida for 20 years now. This is my 3rd house on a large lake.
This is the 4th gator I've seen on my property in all that time.

Actually you're right! No one in their right mind, walks around the lake, or in back yards at night, NO ONE!

I think that was a "horny toad can tell you which way to go",.... and the instructions were meant more for women, than men.

I too occassionally see those here where I live in Jupiter Florida..couple months ago was cruising around the golf course and on a water feature near our house here is a 6-7' gator sunning himself. The golf duffers have learned not to fetch errant golf ***** ;-)

Usually when I am outside doing car stuff or whatever this is what joins me… very friendly Sandhill Cranes…they just walk up and look

They do have an inquisitive look

We deal with a lot of $h!t here in Minnesota ( mosquitoes, snow, liberals) but at least when we go outside, nothing tries to eat us.

My backyard. Just the occasional squirrel or raccoon.

Beautiful back yard Randy, very tranquil looking. I love all the foliage.

As you know, we moved into a new house in March of '13, which is when that photo in my first post was taken.

In the past 16 months, the trees, shrubs, etc, have all grown a lot, and the place looks much more settled.

In that photo you'll notice there was no house to the right of mine. One has been built since, and given me great neighbors with whom we've become very friendly.

In fact, if it's not raining tomorrow morning, I'll take another photo of the front of my house, and replace the one in post #1 to bring you up to date.

Gators just all around, that's a real situation I'd say. I'd go in the house, for awhile...maybe even longer.

Thanks

When we built our house in 1985 I went to the woods I played in as a child and dug up those trees and brought them back home. They were all just little twigs back then, seems like yesterday, how time flies...

Cant wait to see how much yours has changed.

Gators are usually only really dangerous during mating season.

I used to camp in the Everglades during hunting season and went fishin' there all the time. We saw some big'uns... like 15'++. It would get hot during the day, jump in the water from the boat and get right back in.
