Default Fuel Injection cleaning

I had my 2012 coupe at the dealer today for routine oil change. As part of their inspection, they told me the toe was off, the mechanic let me see the readings on the
alignment machine. HE also reccommended a fuel injection cleaning for $110.00. I told them to do the alignment, but don't do the fuel injection cleaning.. I run top
Tier gas and add techron occassionaly. My car has 26, 000 miles. My question is
do I need to have the fi cleaning done now?

Same thing happened to me at 36M miles at local dealership. I called my neighborhood mechanic who does all the stuff for me on my cars and he said the same thing.

NO!

He has been Chevrolet Mechanic, and now teaches mechanics for GM. I trust him completely.

Just another gimmick, didn't know the dealers were doing it too. We have fuel filters fuel additives and yes, Techron. My fuel injectors are pumping plenty fuel into my LS2 and then some. If they stop doing that then time for cleaning but I doubt that it can be done in place.

Just a moneymaker for the dealer.

Good move on telling them no!! They just might have tried to top-off your blinker fluid and adjust the exhaust gear. LOL!

Maybe they are quoting to clean the exposed parts of the injectors.

And this is why you don't go to a dealer for anything other than warranty work and even then it should be expensive warranty work. People say there are a few good dealers out there but I haven't found one in 50 years of looking. They think everyone walking through the door is ignorant about things mechanical and are therefor fair game for any snake oil they can invent.

Rule #1: Dealers are not in business to help customers. They are in business to make money and occasionally helping customers is just a cost of doing business.

Rule #2: The FREE!!! 791 point inspection is not done to keep customer's cars in top condition and same them repair costs later. It is done to make money today.

I agree with the rest of the folks. No need for fuel injectors to be cleaned. My guess is that your Corvette is running fine now and would not run any better after the dealer "cleaned" your fuel injectors.

My thoughts on injector cleaning by the dealers is that the ethanol in the gasoline today is a very good solvent. It should keep the injectors cleaned.

Default +1 on the Techron

I add a bottle at each oil change, and call it good.

Gotta remember that the guy you usually interface with at the dealer service department is the "service advisor" who typically knows very little about mechanics but who does work on commission, i.e., everything he can upsell to you during the service write-up is money in his pocket. Doesn't necessarily make him dishonest or a crook, but does give him an incentive to get you to spend your money.

It's a rip off and lots of shops try to sell it. Even Walmart. It's the new "carriage undercoating and paint sealant". You made the right choice. In 1986 -88 it may have been valid due to fuel quality. I believe they also changed the injector design so they are less prone to clogging ( not positive on that one)

Either way, some shops try to sell injector cleaning to everyone who walks in the door. They'll also try to tell you the tranny fluid should be changed every 50K miles even though the manual says 100K.

My wife schooled the local Chevy dealer on that one last month

never done fuel injection service on any car regardless of age or miles - use Techron and give her a long run every now and then, does a lot of good for the car
