How fast is fast?

Even entering an interstate at full power can get you into trouble if a cop thinks it is excessive acceleration. Radar detectors are useless in Utah since they have unmarked police cars.
Power to weight doesn't matter that much really as there are some fast 330hp or so Audis out there that weigh in around 4000 lbs. It all depends on how power gets sent to the ground.

I have entertained the same thoughts as the op.
I know my 08 has more power than I know what to do with. I installed 4:10 gearing just to have more fun at lower speeds.
Passing and merging power is really all that is needed and the C6 meets these demands without even straining.

They had trouble defending them if you were solo and did not lose traction.

my built by me (and a friend), pro street muscle bike, using a handcrafted, detuned version of one of our v-twin race motors, has a power to weight ratio of 4.18lbs / 1hp. It pulls REALLY hard. It's a 9 sec 1/4 mile bike, if the launch is good.
The laws regulate speed, not acceleration rate. So, as long as you are under control, you can accelerate up to speed as hard as you want.

I wouldn't count on not getting nabbed when gunning onto the freeway, at least in CA.

$ for $ I believe the Corvette to be the best value around, and however quick it is is good enough for me.

Back in the late 60's mid 13's in the quarter mile was about it for a stock, very high end, big block muscle car on standard tires. And that includes 427 Vettes and 426 Hemi Mopars. These are iconic performance cars and were considered brutally fast in their day. By that measure a '97 C5 is a very very fast car (let's be honest, a M6 C5 is all you'd ever really need) and any LS3 C6 is just stupid fast at a mid 12 second quarter mile. Will it end any time soon? I don't think so. Those old muscle cars were not easy to live with, they stank, they sucked gas, didn't handle, wouldn't stop and were not very good as a daily driver. Today's performance car is very easy to live with and most of them even get decent gas mileage. For many drivers the goal is to have track level performance in a livable road car, if that's the goal I don't think the end is in sight. I have a 2011 GS and I like a twisty road as much as the next guy but you really have to pick your spots to safely exploit its capabilities on public roads. A 2015 ZO6 with the ZO7 package has just got to be insane on the street. Do you need it no, do you want it? A lot of folks do.
So where does that leave us? Wellll, some of those muscle cars were a lot of fun. I had a '63 409 SS Chevy w/ 400hp engine (adv) and I still think it was a blast. Only things, I had to do to it was replace a couple of valve springs and a water pump for a 100K miles. White with black interior and American Racing Equipment mags. But always wanted a Corvette. Finally got my first... '08 VR Base model and the 430hp rating is just fine. Sounds great, great gas mileage and super looks. As Road & Track commented in their 100th Anniversary article, we'll start the tests with the bottom of the lineup, and[U]Some [U] bottom it is! So to assess it all, it looks like you hit the nail on the head!!! psst...they did acknowledge that the Vette only had 60 years, but Chevy was "100"

I'm sure those will come down, but that 11.2 from Dodge might be a hero run if that is any indication.

Hellcat did 10.85 on drag radials and 11.2 on stock oem tires.

Its not like they test slow. They usually test the quickest times aside from a brand loyal mag. Just food for thought, its tough to find .8 seconds and 8mph. Maybe they took off w/ the valet key

when a person gets messed up on drugs they go after the dealer, so why is it the opposite with speed? if I make my vette do what it can do they should go after gm for making it this way lol

I can relate to that too. My problem then was no money! Not rich now but I am in a much better place.
