Possibly ANOTHER failed 427 motor?
I posted this yesterday in another thread, but someone suggested I start a fresh one so that it will register as a separate failure (if that turns out to be the case):
"Just coming home from a 250 mile Cruise with the CCO and, low and behold, a knock (that went away quickly) and subsequent LOW OIL PRESSURE warning. Went from 50-60 at rev, all the way down to +/-19 at rev and ZERO at idle! Plenty of oil in the tank as well. Looks like the 427 is off to the service department on Monday! P.S. just turned 3500 miles."
Two additional pieces of possibly significant info - the car has a history of nearly not starting (extremely slow crank) when it is hot and, just before the "issue" started, the car stalled at a stop light (rather embarrassing, to say the least!).
Comments?

My 1st guess would be you are wiping/wiped a bearing - likely a rod bearing
I would have it flat towed to the dealership - no use in creating any additional damage.
Sorry to hear about this but they are mechanical devices.
I would much rather have this than a electrical demon to chase

i know there was a thread a ways back about misalignment or installing the torque tube incorrectly (idr how, but it's been done before was at least three cars diagnosed the same) from the factory putting too much pressure on the thrust bearing. end result being low mileage cars with wiped bearings... that sucks.. keep us informed, good luck

REAL427, Any word on your Z06, yet.

Guess I'll be watching this too. I have serial number 2272 but the motor was build by someone else. Can't remember her name off the top of my head. It has 4600 miles on it, but no issues with starting like you mentioned having.

No word on the 427, yet. The flatbed came and picked her up this afternoon and she's now at Starling Chevrolet in Deland, FL.
They expect to pull all of the error codes tomorrow AM and then get to work.
For what it's worth, I started the motor in order to move out of the garage, and the oil pressure was steady at 50psi. Naturally, that was a "cold" start and the motor was not run long enough to warm up.
Also in the FWIW department, Starling Chevrolet is NOT where I bought the car - I've purchased three other vehicles through them - (the 427 came from S. Dakota by transport), but they immediately put me in an open-ended loaner vehicle. Kudos to them!
I will keep everyone posted as things progress. Thanks for everyone's input and interest!

Quick UPDATE - no solid news yet.
Service Dept. called Tech Line and was told to "pull the oil pan and look for metal."
Service Dept. is up to their eyeballs in work, so that may not be done until Friday / Monday.
Will let everyone know the results ASAP.

oil pressure
I have the same problem... 250 mille cruise yesterday and when nearing home at a stop light the oil pressure dropped to the first peg on the gauge.
Oil pressure while driving 65 mph was 40 lbs. There was no knock and no low oil pressure light. Vette has 3500 miles.
Is there a reason to be concerned? Thanks

FYI,
The titanium rods are coated with Chromium Nitride. That's because the Ti rods rubbing against themselves is quite abrasive. The coating is to prevent that. In 2013, the rod manufacturer had some improperly coated rods. The coating on those rods failed causing the Ti rods to abrade against each other. Apparently this process either messes with the oil clearance on the bearings or it caused the oiling system to malfunction. Either way, it seems to happen before 5000 miles on the 2013 engines that received the faulty rods.
If you have a 2013 Garage Queen, at least get it to 5000 miles before you store it. then you can have some peace of mind about your engine.
I wish I knew the period of time that the engines were built with the bad rods. Then anyone with a car built in that period could take oil samples to keep a close look on their engine health.
Despite these findings, I love my car and I am ok with GM as well.
Cheers

GM needs to do something about it if they know it is a bad part. Having $14k motors blow themselves up is not good for a reputation.
GM should try to have the rod manufacturer fess up and pay for these failures since apparently they caused them.

Recall
Gm recalls more vehicles everyday. People say how bad cars were in the. 80's but apparently gm made a bunch of garbage recently. I love my vette and lucky for me have not had any issues YET except for the harmonic balancer. I was going to buy a new Z06 but I am very cautious about giving GM any more of my $$. I saw yesterday gm recalled a couple hundred thousand more cars. When will it end!!
