Possibly ANOTHER failed 427 motor?

Burning Brakes
Good question, here's why. I use it for cruises, roadtrips, and nice day top down driving. The thought of dropping a valve somewhere far from home isn't good. A new engine, while nice of GM, screws up re-sale value, although I'll probably keep it until the kids make me give up driving. Replacement heads aren't expensive, relative to what I paid for an otherwise delightful car.
So, peace of mind is my motivation.

A friend of mine Just had his motor replaced , got it back with a new engine and its back in the shop( 427 convertible miles 3,500 ). Talked to him this morning and say something in the front on the engine ..... Im guessing Harmonic balancer.... is it to late for a buy back ? any ideas ?

Johnny Vette - not a chance -needs to be at least three attempts to fix the same issue without success.
Laws may vary by state beyond that point but that is typically considered the minimum before discussions can start.

I also want to make it abundantly clear that, although I do not want a car with a new motor - I suspect that (if it works out that GM winds up putting me in another vehicle that is to my satisfaction) someone will buy it who is less "sensitive" to that condition and, other than the new motor issue, will wind up with a fantastic machine that is one of (I believe) only two made (yes 2!) in that color combination (Cyber Grey with a code 023 solid red interior). It looks fantastic and will (in my opinion) have enhanced value because of it's uniqueness / rarity.
Just sayin...

We all will be long gone before #'s matching ever enters the equation.

I have a similar concern....I have an 05 Convertible that I plan to sell in a few years and intend to replace with a 427. I suspect, by the time I trade up to a 427 the ones that are going to have issues will have had them already if they were going to....at least I hope that is the case

Same problem. low pressure, hard staring and died at the stoplight as well. Were you driving my car? Anyway I am hopeful for a new engine since they looked at it and have been instructed to tear my engine apart to see what failed. And likely according to my service advisor a new engine is in the cards. Will let you all know.

I have a 2013 427 with 8,020 miles. I had it at a corvette shop getting headers/cam/CAI installed. I heard about all this valve stuff so I instructed the mechanic to check valve guides and sure enough they were bad. So, new valves, rods, guides, springs etc.etc. to the tune of an additional $2,500.00. Now I’m going to worry about bearings, harmonic balancer, timing chains and this was a $90,000.00 car in 13. Peace of mind is not happening with my 427, and I planned on keeping this vette for some time ( I’ve had 5 since 2008). All I can say is SOB!!!!!! I’m pissed that this hand built motor is causing this much stress. I understand REAL427 wanting t get out of it. I think if I could I would do the same, as Tarzan used to say the LS7 is “bad juju” and that sucks being a one year model with 2552 made. I thought it was a keeper. GM shame on you for not being proactive with this issue.

So when you factor in how long it takes for GM to respond it isn't out of line to ask after a month or so.
