Default Battery questions

Hey guys my 07 needs a new battery and I would like to install the same ac delco 8538 that came in it. Here are a few questions I have
1. Is the dealer the only place to buy them?
2. Will I need to reprogram the radio once I unhook the existing battery?
3. Anything else for me to consider before doing it myself?

Thanks

There are AC Delco distributors other than the dealer. Just google it. You will only need to reindex the windows when your done. I just swapped mine for a Walmart battery this morning. Took about 15 minutes from start to done.

How about THIS place? Is it close by to you?

Watch very carefully that you DON'T lose the nuts for each of the cables. They are tapered and the batt. connection will not work properly without them. So, take them off carefully and put them on the same way. Cover the fender, too.

I replaced my original battery in my 2007 after 5 years with the Delco professional from my local chevy dealer. They charged me around $85 for the new battery with a 6 year warranty as I recall.

I have had very good luck with the Delco batteries lasting a long time in all of my vettes over the years and have stuck with them.

That's the reason for the warning, you can't find just the nuts.

At least no one has posted a source yet.

With the battery out it's a good opportunity to easily change the cabin air filter. Purolator C-25623 w/charcoal.

I can not agree with your decision to stay with the OEM Delco. I have experienced two failed batteries with cracked cases, both being replaced under warranty. The have not cost me for replacement, but it makes a real mess when battery acid gets loose in your car. Surely something more rugged is available. It isn't as if I am driving off-road or doing something crazy to destroy these batteries.

Don't remove the tapered seat nuts, just loosen them. If you do remove and lose them try EBay, there was a listing a year or so ago.

For a new battery why even consider a Dealer? You know they'll be the highest price, the least covenient and the worst customer service. Any discount auto supply store is open late, early, weekends and Holidays, Chevy Dealers aren't.

if u use a battery tender any battery will work as long its the right size for your car.
try to keep your battery on a tender when not in use.
this summer heat will drain any battery nomatter what the brand if left just sitting.
i got an energizer battery from sams no problems so far.

I am still running the original battery in my 07 and will replace with another Delco when I do. I planned on putting a new one in this spring but I haven't had any issues so I have left it. I did call a couple dealers near me and they wanted around 140 for a new one.

I replaced mine at 5 years old in my 2007 convert just because I felt it was getting to be the time, not because it had failed yet.

FYI the chevy dealer parts department here in Tucson charged me about $85 back in 2011 for a new delco professional.

You will, need a long socket wrench extension to reach the hold down bolts.

I couldn't recall if I'd ever seen a post on where the nuts might be, so I practically put glue on my fingers when I loosened them----just in case... .haljensen is correct in that you shouldn't have to remove them but going too far and watching them drop off into the engine hiding places is always a possibility. for me, that is.

DO NOT REMOVE THE NUTS...just loosen them and wiggle the connector off the battery...easy.
