Default Idiot threw road debris leaving black mark

I was driving home from work on Friday when a pick up truck decides to go around traffic using the breakdown lane. His tires threw junk up and my Vette was hit by what looked like a piece of tire debris. It left about a three inch black mark just about the front emblem. How do I get this off without ruining the finish? I got a picture of his license plate, but I can't prove he did it.
Thanks foe any help.

Goo gone, goof off, Krud kutter, gasoline on a rag, etc.

The break down lane? Is that what everyone else calls the shoulder or is it the area between the fast lane and the guardrail? Try WD 40 and then Plexus.

3M 8987 is for residue removal and works on tar so fast it drips off before you get the rag on it. Try that. I think you will be happy and it being hit up by a tire dont count but if something falls off a truck it does. That is what I have always found.

Remember, 3M makes a whole line of body/paint repair stuff (starting with sandpaper which they are kind of famous for) and the above I have (for almost 5 years) is in a 15 oz. white with red spray can. It's actual "name" is General Purpose Adhesive Remover and the big number on the can is "08987" at least it was on my old can. Works and is safe for clear bra, too.

Goof Off is for removing paint and it will! DO NOT USE GOOG OFF UNLESS YOU WANT TO REMOVE ALL THE PAINT!!!

I have never found a mark on any car that couldn't be removed with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish. It is also what I use once a year after clay and before Rejex. If you had Rejex on the car most marks will just wash off.

Default Warning about 3M Cleaner

Something else about 3M8987. Wear Gloves and avoid smelling this stuff. Read the can before use please! I got mine at Groits Garage in Tacoma Wa but Amazon and others have it, less than 20 bucks as I remember.... I looked on Amazon and was 13.77 and had discount shipping.

I've used Goof Off / Goo Gone many times on many cars and it's never harmed the paint. They advertise on it taking stickers / logo's off of cars! Anyway, you can use Goof Off but you probably don't need something that harsh. I had a full recap hit my white Lexus, bumper, hood and then down the side of it, 20 minutes of a good cleaning wax it all came off with no problem.

Good Luck.

Yes, between the fast lane and in this case the concrete barriers on Hwy 360 in Arlington, TX.

Yup. Texas is ALWAYS under construction.

The first thing I'd try is a good synthetic wax. Hope you'll be able to get those marks off with no problem. Good luck!

I would try Mequirs scratch x or some other mild rubbing compound followed by a good wax or sealant.

I hit some VERY LARGE tire tread that left severe marks on the front of my car where I thought only a body shop could repair it, but after trying Megs #105 & porter cable buffer I was able to remove all of it myself,..

I have also used WD-40 on other vehicles. It works great and smells good! Have not had to use it on the Vert yet.

I just did my truck today with megs #105 followed by #205 with my porter cable (first time use). Nine year old abused truck and the paint looked almost flawless afterward.

I used goof off to remove the residue from my stick-on license plate holder. As you can see the paint is perfect. Please tell us how you came about the knowledge that GoofOff removes auto paint, or paint in general?

You can also try to clay it... If its black thats a good sign that it didn't scratch the car.. It would be white if it scratched

Bug remover or clay bar. You can also wash it with hott water that may work
