Default Navigation dvd

Would anyone on here be willing to let me use their dvd to update the nav in my 05? I went to the dealer and they wanted almost $250 for the latest version! The parts guy told me to find someone with the newer disk and borrow it.

I am an honest guy that just needs to borrow a newrr disk. I will pay shipping both ways or however the person wants to handle it. Thanks

The disc itself does not update the head unit, everything is on the disc and the disc has to be left in the unit to use the navigation or any voice commands. Borrowing a disc and returning it will not do you any good. Copying the DVD is allowed to use as a backup as long as you still maintain the original in your possession.

The latest update disc is version 9 2013 maps and if you put that in your 2005 you will have the latest maps but if you take the disc out and put your old map disc in you will have your old maps back. No map info or POI info stays with the head unit when the dual layer map DVD is removed.

The full price on the official map update "HERE" site is $199 and they run sales occasionally and I paid $159 for the latest 2013 map DVD from HERE (formally known as Navteq) that provides the oficial GM map updates.

Oh I didnt know that. My nav works now and the disc is in the owners manual. Did they change something or am I not understanding? I can use my nav now without putting the disc in, but new roads in my area are not on there.

Thanks.

If you can use your Nav then there is a disc in it.

You probably have a year of the Nav that has 2 discs, 1 for East and Central and the other for West and Central. The latest version has it all on one disc.

New roads won't always be there on a newer disc, the only thing always on the new disc is CURRENT Restaurants, Gas Stations & POI's and the advertizing revenue they bring

Try ejecting the dvd disc from the second slot down, the disc must be in the head unit on factory nav units in order to use nav or voice commands and it has been that way throughout the entire C6 run. The only way it would be different would be if you have a after market head unit and not factory one.

The disc in the manual is not a map dvd it is a demo for the cd slot or the second map dvd for the updates that had both a east and west disc instead of all on one disc.

Then the disc has been updated because the one that came with the car was all on one disc if you have two map discs east and west then it was a later version. You could have two different one disc version updates.

They went back to one disc again on the last 2 updates. The label on the disc will tell you the version number that will tell you what year maps you have.

Version 7 east and west discs;

Version 9 all in one disc:

Check Ebay, I believe the newest update is from 2015,2016 hopefully others will chime in on this subject, others will advise to just replace with a new aftermarket unit such as Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer, etc.

Okay, I have to ask. How did someone steal your disc? As in they broke into your car and stole the disc? Interesting.

Once, I was out on an errand and made a quick stop at the corner store. Stupidly, I left the door unlocked with the NAV disc lying on the console lid. I realized my mistake about a minute after I went into the store and raced back out, but it was too late. Someone had opened the door and left me with two more NAV discs.

No , I just purchased the car and had not used the navigation. 2 days later when I did try to use it, it said insert cd. i opened the door and nothing in there. I guess I should have checked at the dealership before buying it.

If you just purchased the car, go back at the dealership and ask for the disc that should be in there.

The latest & last OEM navigation disc is version 10, listed just under the DVD/ROM symbol on the face of the disc. I purchased a copy off of eBay for $10 and worked perfectly.
