Default Dodge Hellcat rated at 707HP!!

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/...ntcmp=features

Wow, I'll have to say that I am impressed to see that Dodge is finally getting serious about upping their game in the Challenger: 707hp!

Look out for these things on the street.

707 HP in a Challenger is impressive, but what will the price be? What is the weight? What do the Viper buyers think at least those that bought one?

I think a 650 HP Z06 will clean its clock just based on the difference in weight.

Finally, I know there are many out there that say you never have enough HP, but in reality, what do you do in every day drive that requires this type of HP except cruise in bragging rights.

Getting 707 to the ground in a meaningful way would require slicks, wheelie bars and a safe place to go forward. Thats a dragstrip. Out on the road it's overkill. I'm plenty impressed with 430.

I am definitely a viper guy, the gen 5 is my third. I am impressed but waiting to see what dodge now does for the viper. 640 hp naturally aspirated could easily turn into 750-800 with 3/4 lbs of boost, although 640 is already overkill for average road surfaces and stock rubber.

The challenger is still a very large car and 7-800 lbs heavier than the viper, unless weight reduction is part of the new one.

How do you know they haven't added a handling package to this car? Sure, I doubt it will handle like the Vette no matter what they do. But it may do better than you believe.
Their biggest problem is that they are pulling 1/2 ton more weight than the Vette. Then too, 250-300 HP will go a long ways towards carrying that load and making a fool of the C6 or C7 in the 1/4 mile. Now the C7Z will have little problem disposing of the Hellcat

You might be right, but my money would be on a C6 in the twisties or xcross track. Even with the extra weight traction will be a big problem to overcome for the hellcat to reach it's full potential.

Good thing it comes with that second set of keys that restricts the power to only 500 hp for the kids and valets.

i dont like mopar and would never buy one, but that is kickass

i think the challengers look good just dont like anythign else about them , the same with the camaro sexy car just other than that i hate it.

im just glad to see the factories doing the same thing we have been doing tint the aftermarket forever. if the car is 707 form the factory then 1000hp should be easy.

and for those who say "my 430hp is more than enough" take off your wifes dress. no amount of hp is ever enough (my job depends on that theory) these cars are completely tame and drivable on the street and when you want you have all the hp at your disposale.

alot of hp is good, more is better and an insane amount is almost enough!

Nope. My car hooks 800rwhp without slicks, wheelie bars/etc. Tire technology has come a long way. That may have been true 30 years ago but you can hook 1000rwhp these days if you want.

Same problem as the Mustang, being a huge HP number, but the rest of the car not up for it at any track.

Simply, The first time there is a bend in the road, all that extra HP goes out the window.
