Default Is there a trick to replacing the map light in the rearview mirror?

I can get the lens off no problem, but for the life of me cannot get the bulb out. I can't just pull it out because it's too difficult to get a grip on and gets too hot quickly. I've tried pliers and cannot get a grip them either. So try putting on a surgical glove to give me some grip but that didn't fare much better and I burned my fingers.

So enlighten me Corvette forum, please

Well had one eureka moment that if I got in the car and close the door the bulb would go out and stop burning me but I still can't remove it

Use a FLASHLIGHT! Plus I used rubber pliers.

Make a loop with fishing line or other tiny string and lasso it out. That's how I changed mine to LED.

I used needle nose pliers with a couple wraps of electrical tape on the tips...not worrying about them being "on"

I replaced all of my interior bulbs with LED's a couple months ago. I was not able to get the old map lights out using the floss method or with rubber gloves. I just have that type of dumb luck on some things. However, I did remove them using needle nose vice grip pliers. Take your time and adjust them so that they grip the bulb with just enough pressure to remove old bulb. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you guys

Tried using dental floss to lasso it but that didn't work
I ended up wrapping the needle nose pliers with the rubber glove I had and that ended up working.

I am now LED throughout

Eight lightbulbs took an hour

I love the LED look. Congrats. It took me much longer to replace mine. I also replaced the back up lights with LED's. I put superbright LED's in the coves as well.

Thanks I agree the LEDs are good look. The eight bulbs I did were the two reverse lights, rear interior cargo lights, rearview mirror map lights, and cabin floor lights.

Can anyone verify for me, before I take it apart, if the license plate bulbs are the same as the other interior bulbs?

Same as other interior bulbs (not same as rear hatch bulbs).

As you can see, there are various ways......after trying a couple, I opted for this one: take a piece of duct tape , wrap it around the bulb leaving enough of a "tail" of tape to take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull on the tail......... worked perfectly, no sweat!

Just in case anyone decides to read this thread later, I tried all the above and still couldn't get it out. I eventually just resorted to beating it with pliers, breaking it into millions of pieces and just digging it out. Took a lot less time, for me at least, than trying all the other methods

I think it's more about the solution...with the least chance of damaging things. Beating on anything electronic is a big chance most do not want to
