Now I'm on the second year of changing the oil in the spring, does Mobile 1 need changing at 500 miles every spring?
Mobil 1 does if you want to keep your Warranty, I'm not sure about Mobile 1.

The newest T-mobile cell phones no longer require oil changes. Just trying to keep you up to date on the technology Hal.

If you don't drive it, why change the oil?

Do you change the tires every year just because they are old?

Drive the thing, it wont hurt it.

I'm supposed to be changing the oil on my S.W. Bell rotary phone? I can't find a drain plug or a dipstick.

Is there a DIY video on that process?

I've had two Porsche's and two Corvette's that have never seen more than 2,400 miles a year. And yet, I change the Mobil 1 every year at inspection time. I too can argue the science of synthetic not really breaking down all that fast in that amount of time. But I can buy a 5 quart container of Mobil 1 at Walmart for about $25. My peace of mind and my expensive toys are worth the $25 (plus filter) every year.

I have a 07 Vert with 6300 miles, and I thought I had low miles.
LOL.
I change Mobil 1 and filter once a year.

I find changing the oil to be therapeutic. Besides, I swear it sounds better and runs better after an oil change. I know it's all in my head, but I still do it.

Obviously no worries on the mileage...
But I agree - as we change ours every Spring - just so the dealer can look at everything else while up on the hoist.
Money well spent!!!!

Changing M1 with 500 miles on it is crazy regardless of the time. Waste of time and oil. Mine was changed December, 2012. It,s been driven 4 times since to the tune of less than 100 miles. 2007 with 6,200 miles. Do you discard oil that,s been sitting in the container for 12 months? If you are driving the car frenquenty but for few miles i would say yes.

I do it every 2 years now, as I only put on around 500 miles a year. I won't live long enough for that to do any harm even if I live to be 150.

Hell - the oils been around thousands of years!
Can't think a coupe more years in your car is going to mean anything.
I agree.

If it makes you feel better change it once a year. My local Chevy dealer freq. has coupons for oil changes for $19.99, oil and filter included, so why not? I do think that it is silly to think that oil goes bad even if it isn't used that much. I don't think the oil in the containers at the auto parts stores have exploration dates on them.

Oil and filter changed, 200 mile trip. Crap nearly half of my yearly allowance on the first ride.

My 17 year old had his first chance at driving it, prolly gonna get a few more miles on it now, Oh no, better not start that conversation

And that "Local Chevy Dealer" also has a disclaimer printed on the coupon for synthetic oil and for quantities more than 5 quarts (and for Corvettes?).

The oil in containers isn't exposed to internal combustion temperatures and chemicals so it probably doesn't expire.

Oil sitting in a container doesn't go bad because it's not exposed to anything. But your oil in your car does get exposed to pH changes, water and possible acidic conditions. Letting your bearings sit for an extended time can possibly etch the bearing surface. JMHO, but I always change the oil each year before letting it sit for the winter.
The beauty of the forum is we're all right......just ask anyone!!!!

Oil should be changed when it needs to be changed. How do you tell when......... get it analyzed. I bet that if you sent the oil to Blackstone labs at the end of one year of low mileage driving they would tell you it is still almost like new. The oil doesn't know how old it is and neither does the lab...... but the lab can tell you when to change it based on the condition of the oil.
