Default Corvette Owners Face a Unique Dilemma with Front License Plates

While I had never given it much thought as someone who’s only test driven Corvettes, I guess 'Vette owners are faced with a unique issue when it comes to laws that require a front license plate.

Do you try to come up with some clever way to affix one to the front at the risk of damaging the car and its look, or do you just deal with the possibility of getting pulled over for not having a license plate?

The issue was raised in a recent San Jose Mercury News story that suggests both Corvette and Tesla owners in California are pulled over quite frequently for being without a front license plate.

I live in WI, a 2-plate state. Been like that for a long time, and I've ignored it even longer.
I pass cops all the time and while some Badgers (here) said they've been stopped, cops haven't given me a second glance in 30 years.

All depends on the state I guess; because, NY, TX & CA are real stinkers --I'm told.

How is this a "Unique Dilemma?"

Just leave it off, $54 beauty tax and move on with your life

Same here. I drove in MD for at least 20 years with no front plate on several different cars and here in NV for 10 years with no front plate on 2 different cars and never been pulled over. KnockKnock.

I've driven corvettes in CA for 20 years and have never gotten a ticket for missing front plate. Ironically, I DID get a front plate ticket in my Prius. go figure.

Unfortunately, my latest vette (CRM 09 coupe) has a molded GM plate holder that was literally screwed into the front bumper. I've ordered a body-color replacement, as the one that's on there is black.

I picked up my '07 yesterday and the salesman handed me the front plate. The car was bought new here locally (in NYS) and nobody has ever had a front plate on it.

So I'll carry the plate with me and hope for the best.

I have a problem with a law that singles out cars and trucks for front plate requirements while letting motorcyles, scooter, trailers get away without one. Seems like another cash grab and a waste of metal.

A company here makes a tag holder that slips between the bottom of the nose/bumper and air deflector which is attached to the bottom of the bumper that uses the same holes/screws that hold on the air deflector, so no new holes!

PS: No front tag here as you can see from the pic to the left since 2010, so far so good.

Illinois is officially a two-tag state, but the only one who seems to care is a rent-a-cop at the Scott AFB main gate. He's got attitude, but cannot write me a ticket. I have a bracket installed behind the grill and my front plate is mounted on a matching frame. I carry it in a bag in the trunk, just in case.

Texas used to be bad about it, but I haven't run a front plate since 1998 and haven't been stopped. It does give the police a reason to stop you any time they want to, but so far, so good.

I ran without a front plate on LI,NY, for three years and then I wound up with 3 warnings in one month. I finally decided to buy a Topflight holder and mounted the plate. It took a while for me to get used to looking at it that way, but, I'm over it now. I don't want or need any B.S. from the cops about anything anymore.

Same here, Milwaukee Wi. I received one ticket in 31 yrs of driving without a front plate. It looks like chit on the front of a sports car. If I was getting regularly hassled over no front plate, I would get one of those hideaway plate mounts.

The PD's in NJ normally won't pull you over for a no plate violation but if it is for something else they might just add it on.

One ticket in the Vette over 6 1/2 years while running a missing front plate.

Parking control officer wrote it up.

Lots run one plate around the Bay Area.

Used to watch sometimes when driving big rig and usually would get 1 in 10 anyway minus a front plate. Who knows how how many have the back!

On overnight trips I will put the topflight mount on just to not be hassled by a out of area LEO's.

Really like to keep within the law for the most part.

I ran the Hide A Way front plate and it just got beat up being so low.
