Default Route 66

Anybody old enough to remember the TV show "Route 66"? It was about the adventures of 2 friends, Buzz and Todd (George Maharis and Martin Milner) who drove round in their Corvette looking for odd jobs and just drifting. The show ran from 1960 to 1964. I believe all episodes were in black and white. It was my favorite TV show when I was a kid and at that time, I would have never thought that I would ever own a Corvette. Here I am at age 60 and owning my first one. If you're not familiar with the show but love old TV shows that feature plenty of scenes with Corvettes, I highly recommend buying one of the season boxed dvd sets. I purchased "Route 66: Producers Picks" containing 11 of the best episodes. It's available on Amazon for $9.99. If you were a fan of the show like me or just want to check out an old TV show that featured Corvettes from 1960 to 1964, this is excellent. Also, you have to love the Route 66 Theme song. I purchased a cd by Nelson Riddle and his orchestra just to be able to hear that song. Great show, great song, and great memories! Check it out!

Used to watch it every week. It's reruns are on local cable here in GA. I did the trip from Miami, OK to TX border last October after I bought my 4th Vette, a 2011 coupe. Great road trip and lots of memories from the 60's.

Ah, Todd 'n Buzz . . . One of my childhood favorites. Is it my poor memory, or was there a different companion for Martin Milner towards the end of the series? And you're right, love that theme song. Corvette music.

Loved that show....its what got me hooked on Vettes....only got to see it in black and white though. The theme song still takes me back to warm summer nights in a simpler time.

I remember that show... I almost scored a 63 Stingray split window in 67 but could not come up with the $3000. Damn what it would be worth today!

Use to watch the show all the time. Now I'm 67, on my second Corvette and a friend and I are thinking about a cross country trip (including Rout 66) with both our cars. Wonder how many old timers like myself we could get to go along ??

Remember it well. When they did the episode in Baltimore they stayed at the motel across from my elementary school. I have the DVD of all the episodes.

Buzz always got into fights! lol.... Yes there was a different companion near the end. George became ill and was not able to do the show. I forget what the illness was.

Ah yes, Tod Stiles and Buzz Murdock. Great show. It was one of those shows that I watched every week. Back then as a kid in grade school, I used to dream about the adventure of traveling the country in a Corvette...now I can too! I also regularly watched The Twilight Zone, Bonanza, Wagon Train, Have Gun Will Travel, Gunsmoke and a host of others. Whatever happened to the good, clean shows that you never had to be embarrassed to let the kids watch?

Hey, I love Leave It To Beaver and The Andy Griffith Show as much as anybody, but when I got the first disk of the series on Netflix, I could barely watch the whole thing. The acting and writing were not very good. Very 1950's (despite the production dates). The Corvette makes it barely watchable for me, although it's hard to see how roughly they treat that C1.

Someone also made a 2-DVD set about the highway and the show combined.

One disc (Route 66- Return to the Road) starts out with footsteps in a dim garage, it turns out to be Martin Milner. He removes the cover from an old straight axle and talks about the show, then drives the car (accompanied by a camera crew) from Chicago to LA.

The other disc (Route 66- An American Odyssey) is more about the history of the road itself.

Together, they are great viewing for any road trip/Corvette junkie.

Good work!
And here's the other disc:
Amazon.com: Route 66: An American Odyssey: Bobby Troup, Angel Delgadillo Michael Wallis, John Paget: Movies & TV Amazon.com: Route 66: An American Odyssey: Bobby Troup, Angel Delgadillo Michael Wallis, John Paget: Movies & TV

There is some overlap between them, but still worth every penny to get both. Enjoy.

Don't forget Perry Mason! Watched one a few days ago where Paul Drake was driving a 65 convertible. You know this discussion really dates us, but who cares!!
