Default Ceramic Brake Pads, what did I do wrong?

Replaced my stockers that had 22,000 miles on them, looked great by the way. They were squealers though so I spent the 100 bucks and bought the Hawk ceramic pads. Finished the install last night and did the break in procedure by the letter...no squealing. I was excited....went out today for my 25 mile cruise. The squealing is worse now!!

For the record, I only replaced the fronts, didn't think the rears were the problem.

I've read quite a few posts here of people who fixed their squealing issue by going ceramic so I'm stumped.

Help me out if you can.

If squealing b4 chg, & still squealing, sounds like it wasn't pads. I just changed front and rear pads to carbotech pads but because of dusting. Never any squealing with OEM pads

When I changed the pads on my C6 at _102,000 miles_ they still had 30% on them.... changed them anyway.... brakes never squealed - ever - in the more than 126,000 miles and seven (7) years that I owned the car. In fact, none of my five Corvettes ever squealed in more than 600,000 miles. Wonder why some cars do it, others don't?

Try putting some high temperature grease on the backs of the pads.

You got a good one I guess. It's pretty embarrassing to roll up to the stop light with my top down, all zaino'd out, hair gelled up, sporting my sweet oakleys and squealing like I can't afford to put new brakes on my ride.

Interesting that I have never owned a vehicle that brakes squealed.

Been a few to over the 50 years of driving.

I am easy on brakes though, could that be a factor?

When my OEM pads are cold, they don't squeak. However, as soon as they warm up at all, then here comes the squeaking.

I don't know if you have manual or automatic (I have the A6), but I've found that if I throw the transmission into neutral, then I don't have the squeaking.

Don't be too discouraged---about a year ago I put the Hawk One Piece Ceramic pads on my 427 because the OEM's, while had no noise, were just way too dusty. Today, and probably 2,500 to 3,000 miles later, I couldn't be happier. My suggestions:
1. Do the break-in procedure again.
2. When I had mine installed the dealer said he 'burnished' them, but I did it on my way again anyway. Over the next week I was still getting noise, so I emailed the place I got them from and they told me they heard that sometimes it can take 150 to 200 miles for the squealing to go away-----they were right on the money.
3. Someone also told me that if the car sits for a long time (e.g., over the winter) the squeal may come back, but will go away if you burnish the pads again.
4. After the 175 to 200 mile mark I have not had a peep---even if the car sat for 6-12 weeks in the winter.

Be curious to know (1) which Hawk pads you have, and (2) if the above works for you.

Did you do anything to the rotors?

If you don't, you will get squeals
You can buy small tubes of brake grease from any parts store.

I changed from OEM pads to OEM ceramics, didn't do anything to the rotors, put grease on the back of the pads where the 2 surfaces come in contact, and I bedded the brakes, and no squeals whatsoever.
The originals dd squeal from time to time. The originals still had 3/4 pad thickness when I changed them out for ceramics.

I just installed powder coated calipers and Hawk ceramic pads (for low dust) last weekend. I was worried about squealing but that was not a problem on the old pads. I like you, followed all procedures to the letter during installation and break in. No problems. Make sure you put enough high temp grease on the rear of the pads. I did not do this when changing pads on my Dodge truck. They squealed like a stuck pig! They initially started to get loud after one day of driving. Good luck. Can be very annoying.

Light coat of hi-temp grease should always be used on backside of new pads.

Occasionally after a day of repeated low speed/easy/gentle stops my Hawk Ceramics will begin to squeal a bit.

Going through an abbreviated version of the bedding process quiets them down again.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'll try the break in process again and hope the squeal goes away. I did use the provided anti-squeal lube that Hawk sends with their pads so that shouldn't be the issue. Also, someone had asked if I did anything to my rotors, answer is no. Does that affect anything?
