Got a chance to line up with a GT-R...

Rolling runs are meaningless (not driver talent needed).
On a strip, as well out of a tight benders on a circuit track, you still need to dig out the hole and these few second every corner add up to mins in the end of a full timed race/seconds per run on the strip.
Lets face it, Zero to 60mph times now are not based on HP anymore, but the cars ability to dig out of the hole with the traction that the car has instead. Even with dropping a E force on vet, your not going to lower the 0-60 time number down much, due to the lack of over all traction that the car has out of the hole (even when running super comps).
So even on a ZR-1, the 0-60 is 3 second plus, while a Veyron Black is in the 2.5 second mark instead.

I'll snippet that part for you right here...
I explicitly stated taking traction out of the question the rolling runs were to see which car flat out, has more power. Get your panties out of a bunch.
Rolling runs are fun and if you're a stick shift (like myself) you have to have some driver skill to row gears quickly and accurately.
Anyways, at the track I've ran my car and I have beaten faster cars that should take me. On the flip side, I've also lost to cars I should have beaten. It happens and is part of the fun.

Still not about power, but traction instead.
Not sure what HP your car is making, but on mine, if I stomp it to achieve WOT, I'm going to break the tires loose well into third gear until I get enough down force to start rear down force pinning the super sport rear tires down to stick instead.
To see this yourself even with a stock motor car, go into Torque management with a tuner, and de-crippler the motor across the board, then crispness/quicken up the pedal to TB response.
You will be surprised what GM did in torque management even in full-off mode to try to save the drive line to cut way back on warranty work. Not only did they get creative there to hobble the motor, but also in pedal to throttle body response as well.

Well if it makes you feel any better I take great joy in beating GTRs. This Powerfabs modified shop GTR with Powerfabs go to driver. My car is set up to run 1/8 mile not 1/4 mile so I was at a disadvantage but he still could not run me down. This is also with my last engine the 416 not my new 427.

I read a bunch of the post on this thread and I must debunk some of it. If you know racing you can win most of the time with a car that has much less power. Spinning is not winning, so spend your money on what matters "traction". When at the track I am more concerned with my competitors tires and suspension than anything else. I have a pretty good idea how much HP the track can handle after 1 pass with my setup. If a guy comes up with a 1000rwhp car and 19" drag radials I will take that race all day and tell him he can use his goofy gas also. There is no away he will plant that power on that sidewall and get a 60' that is worth a darn. If I cut a 1.35 - 60' and he cuts a 2.3 - 69", he has just given up a second at the start and in a 6.3-6.4 second race he does not have enough track to catch me. It all comes down to MATH.
Give me a bone stock C6, LS3 auto, 275/45-17 hoosier D/R , change the rear diff to a 3.42 and add a 3500rpm stall, this set up will skin 60% of the daily drivers that show up at the 1/8 mile. Take out the passenger seat for another 1/10.

You must be a gluten for punishment! Why even bother to go up against him? That's like a jogger going up against a World Class Sprinter in the 100 yard dash! You know you're going to get your jock handed to you. The GT-R is a $100k sports car! It better be faster than a production Vette! That guy had nothing to loose by racing you and he knew it. I had a 370Z and though its not a GT-R, the looks are similar but the power not so much! With my 370Z, I once went head to head with a 5.0 and he had my lunch which was stupid of me to even think the Z had anything over a 5.0. I still remember how crappy I felt after that. Lesson learned! I would take the overall package of what the Vette has to offer any day over a GT-R including looks and interior and I'll still have enough money left for groceries!

Anyway, I hate to see arguments started in a thread that was meant in good fun. Yes, my Corvette is a base model. It wouldn't have mattered if I'd shown up in a Z06 or a ZR1 or a Lingenfelter. We raced from a stop light to about 90mph, because it was fun and no one else was around. Simply put, we felt like it.
As to why line up with him? He pulled up next to me in the middle of the night, empty highway, light turned red. Seemed like the perfect opportunity, and when I looked over and saw him grinning, we both knew what was about to happen. It's that "why bother?" attitude that keeps people from success. If no one ever seized an opportunity, this would be a pretty boring world we live in. Fortunately, this was just a drag race and not a career choice.

Totally agree. I don't care how fast they are they're still rice burners with a fart can! Stick to the American muscle!

Run anything that comes up next to you. I ran a modified GTR back in November at the track. Fully planned on getting wiped out.
But somehow have the white slip after that run. He trapped 135 and was freight training me but I put a half second on this guy at the 60ft. 1.91 to his 2.43. No idea what happened, he spun, he stalled, he fell asleep, but always give it a shot.
For people that say one sports car stands no chance against another, I don't think you've raced enough.

Lots of speculation about what's fastest, but this Laguna Seca fast list ends the debate with the Nissan GTR in 15th place... well below the 5th place C6 Z06's 1:34 time;
- from Car & Driver;
"Ah, the Corvette. No car (save the Cayman R) generated more controversy at this year's (2011) Best Driver's Car, and no car will generate more controversary once you commenters take your gloves off. Let's get this out of the way right now: The Z06 decimated the competition around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The devilish Chevrolet, which showed up with 666 miles on the odometer, was more than a second faster around the track than the second-place Ferrari 458 Italia, and faster still than every other contender. No car was even close to the time laid down by the LS7-engined monster, despite the fact that the Fezza, the Lexus LFA, the Audi R8 GT, the Mercedes, and the Nissan GTR all packed more horsepower."

Ran one several years ago in a 2009 Z06 with headers and cold air intake,I out run him but it was all I could do to get away from him,if I didn't know how to launch he would have the edge.
