Wide body dumb question...
Ok….so I have a "new to me" 2012 GS….had the 05 C6 many years ago….the "wide body" thing is new to me…yes, I do understand what its all about BUTTTTT… here's the question: just how "wider" are we talking about , AND…is it my perception, or is the new C7 smaller than the "narrow body" C6????? Thanks….

Here's the poop from the official Chevrolet site:
Comparison between the 2013 base vs GS--looks like about 3.3" difference in OAW

The mirrors are the same width, though. So your garage door shouldn't be an issue if it wasn't before.

The "wide body" is exactly the same exterior dimensions as the "narrow body" except at the tires. GM added the funky flared fenders and a few pounds of weight to get wider tires under the car for the Z06 wannabees.

Nice plate!
Unfortunately, no one but other 'vette owners will know what that means.
There's always someone with snarky, "funky flared fenders", "Z06 wannabe" comments. Don't you think it's time to give it up?
I cannot understand why you idiots can't seem to comprehend the fact that a lot of folks, the majority in fact, simply like the looks of the Grand Sport, but don't need the hp, or the expense of the Z06.
These folks can afford the additional cost of the Grand Sport, and so they choose to buy them. In fact, the GS 'vettes out sold the base model 'vettes better than 2 to 1.
Comments like yours just wreak of envy, and for no reason what-so-ever.
There's nothing wrong with the base models, they're just a different body style look. Get over it, and enjoy your own car!

Never wanted a Z06 and probably never will!....I like the ability to look up and see the sky rather than a headliner!

Hal: Is this right? I was under the impression that the GS actually had a different--wider--frame than the base, same dimensions as the Z06 frame, but steel as opposed to aluminum. With the track being considerably wider, it doesn't seem likely they would have used the same underpinning as the base and simply 'pushed' the suspension bits and wheels outboard. School me….

The Z06 frame has the same dimensions and the same mounting points as the C6 and C6 GS but it's formed from aluminum instead of steel.

Same frame, completely interchangable between C6 and C6 GS. They didn't"push" any of the suspension pieces, the mounting points are still the same locations, the difference is in the wheel offsets and tire sizes.
