Thanks for all the input folks, I put it up on the lift and removed it this morning.....I'll store it for now while it's in good shape. This forum rocks!

Removing that black plastic crap is the first thing I did on 3 C5's and my current C6.
Yes, they say it directs air flow upwards toward the radiator and filter,( but I have always thought it also could direct water as well).
Ive driven all 4 cars at 150 plus with no effect. No overheat in stop and go traffic.
For me, its just ugly and the car looks way cleaner without it.

You guys twisted my arm...I think I'll take mine off and try it out. I believe my car was slightly lowered by the previous owner (something I wanted to do anyway) because my boss' 2011 ZR1 doesn't drag the air dam in half the places that my 2007 Z06 does, some places being shallow drainage areas in our parking lot at work.
I've read some here on the forums and elsewhere that the C5's were primarily bottom feeders but the C6's get a large majority of the cooling air from the front. Worse comes to worse, I can just put an LG radiator and a lower temp 'stat in it and that should compensate for any temp increases.
