Default Rear view mirror

What is the trick to installing the rear view mirror? My mirror has come off and I cannot get it back on. The entire housing has come loose from the windshield and there is just a metal nut in the glass and a mating shaped hole in the back of the mirror mount. I tried pushing the mount back onto the nut but decided to ask before forcing something and breaking it.

This is the back of the mirror mount that came off the window.

Don't know why it fell off, but turn it about 10 degrees and the wire spring on the mirror clips into the bracket on the windshield.

I pulled...

I was trying to get the plug off to reconnect the blend mount wire and it came off in my hands.

Never push and pull trying to get plug out of mirror without holding it firmly with your other hand. Not sure how it goes back on but the previous comment about turning it 10deg. Sounds familiar.

Yeah, the holding it firmly in my other hand is what must have reversed this 10* thing and it popped right off. I will try the 10* when I get home later. Thanks!

It's 60 degrees. Try starting at 8o'clock position and rotate clockwise.

I have not removed or replaced the rear view mirror. I have the 2009 service manual and these are the instructions for the installation procedure: 1. install the electrical connector, 2. Center the bottom of the mirror on the support. 3. Rotate the mirror counterclockwise until an audible click is heard. The audible click is heard when it is fully seated. And yes the manual does read counterclockwise to install the mirror. Good Luck

Also, see those pins in the mirror mount? They get bent and when you get it back on the mirror will be loose. You can straighten them or replace them to make it tight again. Just use a better grade of steel if replacing them.

It went back on with no problem. Once I turned it ccw to align the proper angles and then rotated it into the proper orientation it popped back into place.

I did a cut and paste on removal and reinstall of the rear view mirror post that was on this forum some time ago. This should help you.

Remove mirror

“How to remove". Once you've done it, it's obvious. The tab on the glass is a triangular shaped object. On each side of the triangle, there are three "lips" that engage pins that are on the mirror mount.

Disconnect the electrical connection. The locking tab is on the top.

Grab the base of the mirror (that blocky looking chunk that is against the glass) and firmly rotate the base of the mirror 120 degrees in either direction to disengage from the windshield anchor point. It's scary the first time.

Reverse to reinstall

Try the link below, it tells you everything you need to know to reinstall and how to replace the bent pins.
