Narrow body, base 'vettes...I just don't get it?
#21
well, I bought a 1LT A6 base new this past July. I was thinking about going with a GS, but then I would've wanted to get NPP, and 2LT, and.....and then I was gonna be spending ~$15-20k more than I did. I also knew that I would be modifying the car over the years that I would own it, and that I'd have to leave a $60k car stock for quite a while before I could justify spending any more money on it.
As it is, I've done headers, intake, exhaust, tune, trans cooler, new brake pads, and I'm finalizing my complete sound system overhaul this weekend. I'm planning on essentially upgrading the car to a GS with ZR1 level power over the next 2-5 years; might cost me more in the long run to approach it this way, but I preferred to buy my car outright than take out a note on a more expensive "loaded" car and have it hanging over my head for years.
This wasn't motivation to buy a narrow body, but the sleeper look is probably motivation for some.

Tough as it may be for some people to understand, there are actually some folks who prefer the looks of the "narrow body" over that of the Grand Sport. There are also those for whom cost is an issue. It all seems quite simple to me.

The GS was not available when I bought my 07 exactly the way I wanted it from the factory. I still have it 91k miles later and still love to drive it. If the GS had been available in 07 I definitely would have paid extra for it.
I have thought about trading up but would hate to see mine go plus I don't want to spend any money...

Why would you buy a narrow body? Because you can drive it through a car wash!
Seriously though, that actually is a reason to do a narrow body, as well as tires being less expensive and the car being less expensive.

Can you drive a base car through a car wash safely?
I didn't think that was possible with any model 'vette.

Hey Ham, Your old enough to remember guys gluing on flairs and cutting wheel wells back in the '60s only to have those same Vettes patched back to original years later. To me the GS looks like the hacked up '60s with a pair of ears glued on. The base C6 looks so much cleaner. Just from an old timer that remembers.

Some were way over done, but some, like the C6 Grand Sport, looked perfect.
