I just bought a 2005, victory red, Z51 six speed with just under 20,000 miles on it. Car is extrememly clean, all the books and owners manual included, and the original sticker was included. Everything works, and the car was well maintained and the previous owner had an extended warranty.

One problem... On the way home, over some rough pavement, the rear latch on the targa top (regular, not glass) popped into the open position two times. The front two latches stayed secure and were fine. Its just the back one that popped open.

Please oh please tell me this can be fixed with a minor adustment or fixed reasonably with a new latch, and that I don't have to buy a new roof! Can anyone help?!

PS: I checked and the car did have the roof recall taken care of, which to my understanding was an entirely different issue with the very top of the roof delaminating rather than the latch popping open.

Try to adjust the latch, it may not be tight enough.

That J-hook needs to be turned/tightened maybe one turn until it has a bit of resistance when you latch it. I think there is a set screw that needs to be loosened if I recall right.

Well, turns out the threads were stripped, so no way to adjust. $300 later, new latch.

Holy Moly! That had to be dealer price. Next time you need a part be sure to check ebay first. I'm sure you could have got it for half that. I got all 3 latches and weather strips for $200.
