Black wheels, I dont get it

We all have our own opinions--
Myself I am with the OP on this one
I don't think it makes the car look mean or sinister- kind of looks dull and cheap to me
But thats my two cents( and it's not even worth that to anyone but me)

I prefer chrome myself and I am not a big fan of black wheels. However I have seen many Vettes with black wheels that look good. It really depends on the wheel type, and what else has been done to the exterior.

Black wheels, Chrome wheels, Gray Comp wheels it is all up to the individual. Would I put black wheels on my Monterey Red Metallic, No. It is not that I dislike black wheels, it is just that I don't care for them on my color. The wheel design makes a big difference, also the caliper color will help.
I happen to have the black chrome wheels and I like the looks, not the bright chrome look, but not the blacked out look either.
So it really comes down to each person and their taste.

I too am generally not a fan of black wheels - I agree with whoever said it looks like four spares on the car. But there is always exceptions to every rule. Just recently I saw the below Nissan Juke (not a fan of that thing either....) and it had a set of black wheels - it caught my eye and was interesting looking. I think it was the color combo more than anything.
I have a black GS and did some Plasti Dip last year just for fun - I left it on for about 2-3 weeks and when I pulled it off I was so glad to see my chrome wheels again!

black wheels look good on some cars, but not all cars.if you are going with the mean modern look, then black wheels are the ticket.gm put black wheels on my 2012 gs ce edition for a reason.with the carbon flash paint, which is really black metalflake, and 2 big flat black racing stripes from front to back gives it that modern mean look.i saw a 2012 gs centennial edition car like mine at a car show.the owner had replaced the black wheels with chrome ones.i did not know it was a ce edition until I got real close to look at it.did it look bad with chrome wheels?,not really.what it did was make it look like any other black vette with chrome wheels.i bought my car because it was the meanest looking vette I had ever seen, and it still holds true today for me.
That is absolutely the meanest, best-est, baddest look possible for a Vette -- and I'm a clueless, worn-out 63 year-old. I didn't know that this was "the modern" look. Years ago everything was chromed -- this new look fits my overall contrarian tendencies.
I'm currently Vetteless, but a C6 like yours is my goal. The red calipers are the finishing touch.

Just purchased a set of original GM C-6 chrome wheels from a guy that installed black wheels on his 2006. Got a great deal and they are flawless.
Moral of the story, I don't like black wheels, but benefited from a guy that does. It's what makes the world go-round. For me I agree with the OP. Looks like no one ever cleaned off the brake dust. Lol

Gotta go with the OP on this one . . . Black wheels = taxicab. They look horrible.
But, it's your car. If you think they make you look like a racer, go for it.

I bought my car pre-owned. It was owned by a girl!!! I had to do something to make it ''MINE"! It's like this, one man's drop dead gorgeous chick, is another man's, she's Okay, but.....

Other than that, I hear you. As someone who loves the purposeful look and contrast of mag wheels, I am amazed that chrome still enjoys such popularity, and I sincerely believe all black will be a fad. Now black centers with polished/machined rims? Works for me!

I figure old guys don't like black wheels because they can't see for s**t
I see the definition in mine perfectly clear, maybe you need your cataracts removed

I used to have this Mustang GT with the black centers and polished rims, that is as far as I will go with black wheels.
