Stealing is a premeditated, intentional act.

This was an accident, which is ahhhh,... accidental.

Throw the other guy in jail...

I hope it's easily proven that the other driver ran a stop sign. That will get him some form of moving violation, and considering the damage and his fault in it, his rates might go up. I suppose he's pretty banged up, too, if not worse than that for his lack of driving skills (unless he had some kind of medical emergency in which case it truly was an accident).

Sorry about your car, but I'm glad you and your son are not seriously injured.

I was in a head on collision a few years ago (on my wedding anniversary no less) when some kid decided to run a red light while I turned left on a green arrow. The insurance issues worked out great for me since it was 100% his fault, but I still have pain in my shoulder to this day from that accident.

Look what I drove home today. The replacement is a 2012 GS in Supersonic Blue with only 8,000 miles on it.

...Mine was totaled like this man's, by a driver who was able to take off and run from the accident. The "first offer" by my own insurance carrier was approx. $20k less than I paid 18 months previously with 7k in mods on the car.

Pm answered Rky Mtn.

Your scenario in no way relates to the OPs as the facts are entirely different.

I'm sure you mean well, folks always jump in with their personal insurance stories, that they feel are relevant, even though the facts are different, the policies are different, etc.

It's like comparing Apples and Bananas.

Your new vette looks great! SSB is a really cool color. I hope you and your son get back in the saddle soon and enjoy a day out. I am really sorry to hear about your wife. Good luck.

Yo Rocky,

How about some nice photos when you're feeling up to it?

Yes we are. Thanks. The muscle relaxer I got works wonders. Planning a cruise in the new one tomorrow.

My wife was in an accident in a parking lot, some guy cutting across the lot between spaces hit her going down an aisle. Just a fender bender and the car was repaired and everything was covered by his insurance. But you may be better off when the car is totaled. What we are left with is a car that looks and drives fine but now has an accident on its Carfax report which lowers the value of the car. Insurance company would not even consider that as an issue. But it is a monetary loss. I suppose I could have gotten a lawyer and fought it but I let it go.

Most importantly, glad to hear you and your son are okay. The Vette can be fixed or replaced. What amazes me the most though is your photo. It looks like you're in a very rural area and still you're not safe from some idiot running a stop sign. I live in CT and use my Vette for my daily commute back and forth to work. I see people driving like idiots all the time and it's a daily miracle that I get to work and back home again unscathed. Good luck in the future!

SSB is a beautiful color and not one seen everyday. I didn't know they made them in coupes, tho...
