C6 Obsolete Parts
Coming from the C5 forum ( had a 2000 vert) I learned that there were a few items that GM no longer manufactured, or could be repaired, for the C5 after a number of years.
e.g. EBCM, Steering wheel position sensor, etc.
Since I plan on keeping my C6 as long as I can, are there any parts that you know of that I should purchase now before GM quits making them?
Thank you!

GM hasn't called or emailed me a list of C6 parts they currently make but will quit making at some point in the future, sorry.
Seriously, you'd be wild-*** guessing at which parts they might quit making someday, and when that someday would be.

It wouldn't hurt to have a case of harmonic balancers laying around...

From what I've seen, interior parts carpet/seat covers are no longer available about as soon as they stop installing on new vehicles. Some color of interiors will may be around longer, but the full line of colors will not.

C6 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
It'd really help if you'd mention a little more about your C6. Like maybe the year and options, etc.
I already know you can't get '08 LS3 blocks anymore. They changed the casting slightly for the '09 MY and it's the replacement block for all '08's. Having an extra '08 block laying around to use when your's wears out isn't a good idea.

If the OP thinks C5s are hard to find parts for, try even a C4. But as long as you aren't convinced you have to have an all original NCRS approved car, if it's critical someone will make the part available. For example, GM hasn't sold the carpets for a 53 Corvette for a long LONG LOOOONG time but there are a dozen places you can find them for sale. Obscure parts that there is little demand for are harder to find. Try to find the interior light control module for a C4. I see just one used one on EBay right now. That's where junk yards come in.

Thanx everyone but I was referring to my 2005 C6 vert, 6 speed manual, hud, active suspension; not a C5.
Maybe a better question would have been 2005 C6 common part failures?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Weak rear end
DEAD BATTERY SYNDROME
the balancer thing
column lock... all of which can be readily handled by aftermarket replacement parts and a battery tender for the DBS.AFTER MARKET makes most parts for our c6's and they make them better.I wouldn't worry about it.In the worst case, there's always the junk yards and ebay.

OP Harmonic balancer comes to mind but there are better aftermarket choices.
I would not spend any money on parts you may or may not need in the future. Wild A$$ Guess is all it would be.

Is there a certain number of years car companies are required to make parts available after they are produced? I thought it was ten or something like that.

Melting Slicks
they only have parts for 10 years. For some time after, left over parts are still available around the country. Ebcm can be rebuilt, sensor can be found aftermarket, and then there is used.

So if the ten year thing is true, most of us will be good through at least 2023. There wasn't a lot of changes through the C6 run, especially on things like body stuff and interior parts.

From my experience with a 20 year old C4, the hard parts to come by are the interior trim panels. Body parts can be gotten from wrecks. Expendables like rubber, carpets, leather, will be kept going from the aftermarket. Drive train parts will be easy to find. Brakes, suspension will not be a problem. Computer components will be available used, and rebuilt, but the C6 is going to be tougher as you will need a Tech 2 with CAN to make it work. Electrical harnesses will get hard to find in decent condition.
So things that chronically break, like the glove compartment latch might be a problem if GM discontinues them unless someone in the aftermarket sees the demand and starts making them. But if might take years.
No point hoarding parts that you might need.

Oldtimer
I just had the torque-tube replaced in my base 07, and I was mildly surprised that GM still makes a brand new torque tube and it is still available, not cheap but ????
